View Full Version : A Bad eBay experience (driftspeed)

Take a seat around the story carpet casue this will be long. I've laid it out in a timeline so that it makes sense.

First the basics: i paid $245 for RSR race springs shipped from "driftspeed" (an online store) on eBay. I did this in march and now in August is the situation resolved (as in i got my refund). FYI, so that i don't look like a total angel in this situation, i did forget to write my order number on the money order, although my name was on it.

3/23 I purchase the springs via the internet and denote that i would be paying with a money order as i don't have a paypal account.

3/24 I sent the money order via us mail

4/1 i didn't receive a confirmation that they received the MO, so i emailed an inquiry

4/5 didn't receive a response so i emailed again

4/7 They respond and ask what method of payment i sent so they could check on it. And i respond with the requested info

4/15 I receive an ebay payment reminder... so i email again letting them know this was happening, he responded saying, "Ok let me just find your copy of your money order and i will turn that into get processed right away."

Somewhere around this time i called the Money Order company to see if it had been cashed, and it had been cashed on 3/29!!!

4/22 I inquiry again, and they respond, "Yes your money order was in the missing file which means we did not know which auction it belongs to and i have already taken care of it and it is being processed so as soon as everything else is taken care of we will have your springs shipped out to you" Cool!

4/27 i get ebay non paying bidder warning #1
I email to remind them that i have paid and need to be taken off this list

they respond, "There has been a problem you have told me that you have paid for your product and that the money order was cashed already. The problem is when i went to look for your money order i couldnt find it. We usually keep a copy of every money order we recieve. If you could can you just find out who the money order was cashed by?" So they don't know who cashed it? concerning

i looked into it and it would cost $15 to see exactly who cashed my order, and i wasn't willing to pay that if i was to find out that they had cashed it

5/5 they respond, "Well what we coudl do is if you could give me the number of the money order your full name and address and the date you sent it out and if you know the date that we recieved the money order we could try to find out if it was cashed and recieved by us." SUPER!

5/12 i inquiry again, they respond, "Hi yes it has already been taken care of we are just gettting the spring right now and once we get that in we will have it shipped out to you right away. Let me just confirm your address" i confirmed, phew looks good now

5/18 I email again, they say it was taken care of and that they should have my springs in soon. "I had my manager go thru our past history of transaction of our bank account and we had confirmed your payment. So i believe we didnt have your item number on the money order or something was not clear or it was misplaced. But we should have your springs in soon and we will have it shipped out to you once it is in." I felt like an ass for not putting the # on the money order but felt I had done my time.

5/26 another week went by and i lost it, it had already been nearly 3 months. So i requested a refund at this point i didn't want the spring from them anymore. they said "I am getting your invoice and i will be turning it in to get the refund processed."

6/2 i asked what the hold up was, they respond, "I am getting your invoice and i will be turing it in to get the refund processed."

6/7 Again what is the hold up? Response: "Let me find out from my manager because he usually takes care of the refunds."

sometime passed by, i loose it and request their phone number from eBay, and i start calling, they are 100% more helpful over the phone, they guy explained why it was taking so long (lame explanations, but he was very nice). I'm content and i await my refund........

weeks pass by, nothing comes in the mail, over the next month i call on and off, they either tell me it was sent or that they were sending it.

Sometime in early august (sorrry i don't have exact dates for this latter stuff, without email i can't keep track of time), i call again and they say it was sent
August 2nd... OK

time passes by, i call again.... they insist it was sent 8/2.

8/20 the refund arrives in the mail, the cashiers check was dated 8/18!! i don't
know how that worked out but I'm just glad it was over

Conclusion, nice enough over the phone to deal with, they just weren't being honest. Over email it's like running in circles. I'll never buy from them again. Just thought i'd share!

DAMN THAT SUCKS!! Sorry to hear about that. Glad you got your money back though.

I ordered steel lines
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7914615329&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT on 8/8

and a PPI 4 ch amp
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5713072082&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT on 8/2 and still haven't recieved them yet. THe PPI guy says it's on it's way 2 day priority....... the stainless steel lines guy.. never heard a single e-mail from him..and I emailed them both 3 times so far. So using pay pal (payed same day), what are the steps to getting your money back?

i always try to not make big purchases over the internet, but $245 isn't too bad and i'm sure you felt that it was not too big of a transaction to make over the net. There will always be people that can give you the run around or just not give you the service you like... in my experience find that one or two dealers that you can trust and buy from them even if its going to cost you a little more money

Driftspeed owes me some money too because I had to listen to Mike22bSTi bitch about them for months. Mental anguish = $$$

Oh, and ebay is the devil...trust no one.

Just cause you know them and say they are cool, doesnt mean they do good business and are legit to others (as can be seen in this thread)

"Cool" means nothing when it comes to money

I see i'm not the only one that's had problems with them, that sucks. Good luck to you all with dealing with them, to be fair i did get my refund and they were nice on the phone, their just slow.... like 5 months slow, so have patience.

The sad thing is that i bought from them instead of Phase2 to save something like $15.

Ritz S14, have you spoken to them via email yet? if so just request a refund, if things get nasty i think there are some actions you can take through eBay

sr20detman, i'm sure their cool, they seemed so on the phone, perhapd whoever is in charge of internet sales is just dropping the ball.

this is exactly why i only pay COD or credit card. with COD everybody is covered. takes a little longer but it makes sure crap like this never happens.

i would also suggest using the ASK SELLER feature.
Most of the time you can judge how well you are going to be treated after the transaction, by their response.
at least you got your $ back.
I would have cancelled the MO after 2mo of waiting.

this rant taken from an entire thread devoted to driftspeed (http://240sxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32055) in the buyer/seller feedback section of 240sxforums:

ordered a greddy downpipe from driftspeed in january. two weeks went by and got nothing in the mail so i shot 'em an email and they said the item was backordered. in consolation, they told me that if the item had not shipped withing 30 days of the auction's end then they would fully refund my money. 30 days went by and i immediately emailed them for a refund. driftspeed sent a reply saying that they were finally getting them in by the end of the week and that they'd ship it out to me then, but i preferred to get my money back. they agreed and after two weeks of nothing, i emailed them again. they said they'd been busy preparing for d1, blah blah blah, we'll get you your money. another two weeks go by, i email them again expressing my concern for their tardiness. they give me some empty promises and tell me they'll get right on it. i kept emailing till i've pretty much gotten no reply from them anymore. not only this, but members of my local forum (az240sx) have been having numerous problems with driftspeed as well. so a word of caution to everyone about driftspeed:

***DO NOT ORDER FROM DRIFTSPEED.COM***

I had to threaten to file criminal charges against them to get my front mount intercooler and piping kit from them (Greddy). It took 2 months, and they had the nerve to give me negative feedback. So, in response, I made a file in Wordpad, showing copies of everything, and proving that they were liars. I uploaded it to my server, and posted the link in response to thier negative feedback. ;)

do not use email for business transactions. it's kind of a no-brainer if someone dealt with e-business. it'd be better to grab hold of the #, the rep's name, and their address before going in circles.

kind of your fault for not giving them ebay item #. because they are ebay business, also an e-business and an upfront store business, lots of transaction involved. i have to admit, they seem unexperienced with e-business after reading some experiences on boards(i'm not saying that is true though)

$219 shipped. :) Since they only deal through the internet (via confirmed paypal) and by e-mail, so prices are lower. Quick e-mail reply on weekdays, especially if you want to know if a specific part is in stock. No problems with dealing with them so far since Jan.

driftspeed's turnaround is slow cuz they don't stock. when they recieve an order they have to order from their source (wholesaler). If their source is out of stock, well... waiting waiting waiting and once they get it...they still have to ship to u.

Moral of the story is: if you're a business and you don't stock items, you suck and close shop.

Moral #2: if you're in the market to buy something, go with a company that stocks items up the zoozandercandaddlemomaddleshizmadfizzle...that's ur insurance of a good turnaround. :)

i think they are also on ebay under the name : nipponhamfighter

under my paypal transaction it show's their name under driftspeed

i think i'm about to get jipped over for the greddy oil pan i won a week ago.
they're telling me they won't ship it to me because i have 2 addresses on my paypal account ( one is my home address and one used to be my college dorm -but i've since moved out to an apt)

i told them i'm a verified paypal user with 100% positive feedback on ebay , and that if they don't want to ship it, then they should refund my money. i'm still waiting for their response.

Ha, i was dealing with Hiro, via email as well, what a jerk!

What really pisses me off is that i can't post negative feedback, because transactions expire after 60 days, which was only halfway through this ordeal.

Driftspeed = bad buisness

Drift speed are a bunch of faggot liars!!
i bought my SR20 head gasket from them on Ebay...emailed them a couple times.. they never replied. a month passed and nothing so i decide to take a joy ride to their shop since i live 15min away. and they said the reason they didn't send me the item was because of my Ebay unconfirmed address... so they told me to email them my home address.. so i was like... why don't you guys take my address now or why can't i pick up my item cause it's been a month.. and they said they're sorry they don't do pick ups... so i said ok then give me a refund they said ok but if i wait a week they'll have my item in.
so i figure i waited this long might as well wait another week... a week later i get nothing... so i called them to get a refund... 3 weeks later my refund arrives... i leave them a negative on ebay for being faggots... and they leave me a negative calling me a liar...
i hate them so much!!
finally i spoke with www.mynismo.com
those guys are kick ass!!
they helped me find my headgasket right away... picked it up the next day!! those guys are really cool. they even have a 240 specialist that'll help you with any questions. i recommend them.
