i've seen a few set-ups with them, but what are they used for? i heard that they coilpacks are very efficient...

I personally think that is :bs: . The reason why is any car with a normal single ignition coil will lose it's ability to fully charge in the higher RPM's. Though depending on what product you're looking at I don't know if it would help or not. The coil is what loses it's ability to charge fully because of not having enough dwell time. If you got a MSD SCI it would help below 3k RPM according to their advertising. But unless you got a new/better coil (i've never tested any but some older and newer factory ones) it will still lack power in the upper RPM. If you can find a ignition coil with a higher rise rate you would be better off. But the only way I know how to get that info is buy a bunch of coils and use an inductive pickup on the coil. I'll see if I can get my friend (previous teacher) to let me use his ocilliscope. It datalogs on a comp. so IF i can get a hold of him I'll be able to post something.
