so im new here, lets just get that out of the way. this car is meant to receive the L33 i have sitting on a dolly in the garage.

without making this too long of a post, ill let the pictures do the talking after some bullet points ill list below.

-Bought chassis with spare motor and turbo kit, sold those for what i paid for the car so in the end it cost me zilch to get this thing to where it sits today.

-i have a tig welder, and a mig welder 10 feet away from the car and i know how to use them so cutting out and replacing these rusted body parts isnt a huge issue in regards to being able to do that myself.

-at work i have a waterjet, rollers, sheet metal brakes, a 75 ton accurpress, so the tools needed to make what i need are at my disposal there.

-also, from what it looks to me, the front parts of the frame rail that rots out has been replaced, i assume the factory doesnt weld on the seam that these seem to be welded on

what i want to know is if this rust, rot, has claimed too much of this underbody to even bother with moving forward. in which case i will resume my search for a cleaner shell for my project, which seems to be tough to find not totally molested or rusted here in NY.

The strut towers and the floor are the lesser of my worries. although the floor as youll see is bad, that will be the easier of the rot spots to replicate and replace.

Honestly, I see much worse 240s all the time where I live.

Definitely repair all of that though.

Not worth the time and effort to save it. Locate a fresher chassis with less depressing...

It looks pretty far gone, but look at this for some inspiration:

I feel the same way, man. OP, if you really want to you can repair it but it would probably be easier just to get a better chassis.

Holy fuck. Just send it to the junkyard... Get a shell that's clean that will not give you problems later on man

As much as it worked out to be a free car after selling the extras that came along with it. I think i will just strip what I can use interior wise off of it and go from there with a new shell.

The strut towers and floor aren't really what worried me. It's the area surrounding the floor and the rear frame rail spot I posted.

Being in the northeast and not willing to travel to a non rust prone location is this what I will find with ANY s13 chassis? Or did I just decide to pick up a really fucked example?

zerb
07-20-2015, 01:34 PM
Now. Is this a typical s13 from the northeast? Or have I acquired a prime example of shit loads of rust?

it's all about the numbers

if the numbers match it is worthy.

They're just trolling you. Zilvia isn't a usually very helpful place (especially in the chat section)

To answer your question, that is a fairly typical (ok maybe a bit worse then usual) northeast 240. If the previous owners daily drove the car in the winter or it was parked outside for awhile there is a solid chance of the chassis ending up like that. There are still plenty of good cars out there though, you just have to be patient and willing to pay the premium when one does come up.

Is that car salvageable with the tools and skills you seem to have access to, very. Is the chassis worth the time and effort required to bring it back, probably not.

If I was in your position I would drop a junkyard KA into that chassis and sell it to some hoonbro who is just looking for a car to smash up. Then put that money toward a better car/shell.

You guys should be ashamed of your self! First you have to ask him what he plans on doing. I mean... it all depends. First, are you a f8ckboi? If yes, then this chassis is PERFECT for you. No point in finding a cleaner shell, if all you're gonna do is trash it with your drift skillz and put hoonigay, aintcare stickers on it. We already have enough ruined 240s

I plan to do nothing of the sort.

I'm hoping to build one of these chassis' so that I will be able to pick up loose women easily and am able to finally go after that "hustling" job I've been longing for.

Only thing you're gonna pick up in a 240 is fanboys. Wait... Do you not even have a job & are planning an LS swap?

LMAO! ^this made my day
Gotta have that turbuh lyfe
LS swaps are for formula d hoonigans and GM fanboys
Also the only people that are gonna be droolin over your car are cholo's, its a sad fact of the 240 life dude

If you're trying to use your car to pull chicks... 1) That's sad. 2) You're much better off spending that LS swap money on the newest BMW/Audi/Lexus you can afford.

fat 2 is right about dem LS swaps dude.

Completely invalidates having a japanese car in the first place.
If you want shitty v8 muscle just buy a car that already has an LS in it like a camaro or mustang or whatever

These cars are JDM 90's nostalgia and should be treated as such

Hey thanks! I'll be sure to take into account how everyone else would like to build my car once I find a nicer chassis! Radical!!

Being unique is for hoonigans bro ,
Building your car your way is often an excuse for cars being in the doing it wrong thread.

Need jap motor cuz its a silvia bruh, not some mountain folk incest GM bastard child of a car

Omg...I hope you guys are happy. You've guided this poor soul into the wrong direction. Now he's looking for a clean chassis, only to [email protected] it up with his own "style"

This poor hick probably thinks he needs a 900whp ls7 with wisefab nucks:l101:

I can't wait to find a clean chassis to self tap screw over fenders to and use my stick welder for all my fabrication needs for this swap. You guys are the best, this place rocks!!

dont worry about what everyone else says. instead, you should do what i say.

do what i say and i will turn your project into a 10+ year build and guarantee to drain your bank account

LS Swaps are only for successful people with big dicks.

LS Swaps aren't very popular on Zilvia.
