Figured I would start a build thread for this one to run alongside my S13 build (which I will move over from premie-land soon).

I had gone through my fair share of 97-98 Kouki's over the years, but never felt like I had found the right one.

Bought a '97 Kouki from New Mexico, but because of the sunroof, I decided to get rid of it and bought my current one instead.

Had it sitting like this for a while.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii246/CrimsonRockett/Kouki%20Build/DSCN2107.jpg

Then, found this one:

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii246/CrimsonRockett/97%20Kouki%20Pearl/DSCN2703.jpg

'97 Kouki SE, original 5-speed, and non-sunroof. Win-win for me.

I like sunroofs, but due to the age of these cars, I just feel that they'll be problematic as time goes on. Having to source replacement parts would be a pain.

Immediately swapped the coilovers and wheels onto the car.

Soon came the aero.

Mocked up the Works9 exhaust.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii246/CrimsonRockett/97%20Kouki%20Pearl/IMG_1150.jpg

Engine has been pulled and engine bay has been cleared similar to my S13. Tubs, full exterior/engine bay respray, new undercoat, all suspension components replaced, etc.

Hopefully, I can get this one wrapped up before the end of this year as well.

I'll definitely keep you in mind.

I think I spent upwards of $1500 on weatherstripping and moldings alone for my S13.

I will be replacing the more worn down ones on this car as well.

Don't remember off the top of my head, but the exhaust is the turbo version. I'll get some measurements as soon as I have some time.

I'm such a blitz 03 fanboy, can't wait to own a set. Car looks awesome already.

Same here (minus the waiting to own a set).

They really grew on me over the years. I was fortunate enough to have gotten this set back from the person I sold them to right after having them refinished.

A little late with this picture.

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii246/CrimsonRockett/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_2162.jpg

In preperation for a full exterior and engine bay respray.

Debating whether to buy a matching Recaro confetti seat for this car or to just run the S15 seats.

Although the engine was rebuilt fairly recently, it unfortunately wasn't sealed properly by the previous owner. Going to take it apart and freshen it all up.

Love me some 03's. I wish I could afford 4-5 sets of wheels. I'd swap every few months.

Interested to see where this car goes now that you have a garage to keep it(the project) in.

As of now, the only wheels I'm really keeping are these Blitz 03's, my BNIB VS-XX (that I've had for like 6+ years), and a spare set of G33 wheels.

Sneak peek at my S13 which I will start a thread for soon.

Was just gonna say 80mm from memory, but I just took a digital caliper to my own to be sure. 80mm OD, and 77mm ID.

Both my S13 and S14 will be KA-T.

I have quite a few parts stashed away for it.

Considered different options (usual SR swap, VQ, etc), but you rarely see clean KA engine bays (tucked wiring, emissions removed, tubs, etc).

Now that we have so many options for cleaning up the engine bay, going to do my best to make it look as "simple" as possible if that makes sense.

Meanwhile the car is off getting the fab work done, I'll be performing a leakdown test on the KA to make sure everything is in working order, removing the pan/front cover to reseal them properly, and modifying the intake manifold in preparation for KA-T.

I'm just curious where you found a new JDM front lip. These build threads are great, keep it up!

Most of the brand new aero parts I've acquired are from people who never finished their own builds.

My VSXX for example. Those are brand new 17/18 stagger in discontinued sizes. Bought them from someone who had them in storage for years.

Some brand new parts have been through contacts at Nissan.

I apologize for the extremely late update, but priorities will always be priorities and cars tend to be put on the back burner for me.

My brother and I finally share the same work schedule. We were able to reinstall the spare KA I have along with the complete Greddy turbo kit to do a final mock up of where everything will be placed prior to sending the car off for paint.

All unnecessary holes in the engine bay have been marked. Core support will still be made removable for easy access when pulling the engine. Intake manifold will be stripped of all smog related components. The only items we have left to mock up are an FPR, oil cooler with oil filter relocation, and the Chasebays PS reservoir.

I have to say, I absolutely love the Greddy KA-T kit. It is allowing us to keep AC on the car without having to run a bunch of custom parts. Also, we didn't have to cut unnecessary holes for the FMIC. Greddy made everything fit using existing holes. We will be running larger injectors along with an AEM EMS V2 instead of the piggy back ECU Greddy includes with their kit.

Just to give you an idea of how it'll be looking once we get everything buttoned up. Motor will be fully refreshed with new seals and nothing will go back onto the car until it's been restored/refinished.

Evo brembo's also fit quite nicely behind the TE's. Calipers will be sand blasted and powdercoated for final assembly after the car comes back from paint.

Oh, I also sold off all of the used K's aero parts and managed to source everything new. Bumpers are obviously still fairly easy to buy, but good luck trying to find BNIB valances, lip, and sideskirts with original instructions/hardware.

I have stocked up on more rare goods to go on the car once final assembly rolls around.

Looks awesome. I balked at the cost of the Greddy kit when I turbo'd my KA. Should have gone with it because by the end I had spent about the same money 10x the time and still didn't have a good running car when I was done.

I like sunroofs, but due to the age of these cars, I just feel that they'll be problematic as time goes on. Having to source replacement parts would be a pain.

Blahhhhh, you really think it'll be tough? I'll be looking into getting into an S14 in a couple of months and do plan on keeping it for a long time, but sunroofs are a nice addition.

Just google "S14 sunroof trim".

That's the most common piece to go out on S14 sunroofs.

No replacement available. With a sunroof, you run the risk of having leaks, rust forming around the base, less headroom, etc.

All of my cars are hardtop.

The owner had it sitting around for a few years unfortunately due to the S14 SR developing a blown head gasket.

Focusing on making it a fun street car. So, the build will be kept simple with reliability being top priority. KA swap is on its way along with new suspension, adjustable arms, wheels, and plenty more.

Before the S14 SR went bad.

That was another car we were going to put together, but I decided to sell the chassis due to it having an aftermarket sunroof delete along with flared/pulled rear quarter panels.

I still have some of the Navan stuff hanging around in storage.

The red Kouki was just too good to pass up. My younger brother wanted something for himself to tinker with without worrying about damaging anything. I'm not a short tempered person by any means, but he knows how much my blue Kouki and hatch mean to me.

Aiming to have the S14 fully reassembled within the next month or so. Some interior trim panels are going to be dropped off at a local upholstery shop for a custom finish. Wanted to set the interior apart from the usual S-chassis / Bride door panel inserts.

Finished assembling both doors, installing all new trim, rubber moldings, etc.

Should have the subframe and crossmember off by tomorrow to start prepping the underbody for undercoat.

Front fenders and hood haven't been aligned yet. Just mocked up for now until my new hardware comes in.

Man, I really like the matte clear on the hood. That's a cool idea. Replicates the factory look well.

The S15 has the full Behrman GT Technora kit.

Spent the day removing the crossmember, subframe, fuel tank, all lines, heat shields, and any hardware on the underside of the car.

Then, had a blast degreasing the entire underside of the car. Seriously my favorite part of the build. /sarcasm

I guess a better before and after would be once the fresh undercoat is on the car. Hopefully that'll be sorted this week.

Crappy picture, but these are all of the items being sent off tomorrow to be completely refinished in a matching color.

Back to using my actual camera rather than all cell phone quality pictures. This shot definitely captures the color a lot better.

Never mind the panel fitment up front. Fenders will be properly fitted once my hardware comes in.

Prepping the KA for my younger brother’s red kouki.

This is going into the S14:

Just cleaning a lot of it up. No wiring or hardlines against the firewall.

Here’s a much better “after” shot now that undercoating is complete.

Interior comes out tomorrow. Ordered about 200sq ft of sound deadening to cover the interior and trunk. Once the suspension comes back from paint, it’ll all be quick reassembly on the subframe, crossmember, suspension and brakes.

Hey man, mind sharing your diet secrets? I'd love to learn how to shit money.

Seriously though, this build is unreal; it's amazing.

Fortunately, everything I’ve acquired was spread out over the years. So, it wasn’t like I just clicked “buy it now” on these things in a week. I recently made a spreadsheet to see how deep I would be into this build by basing it on retail pricing on parts as well as the average going rate for the rare bits. It is over $50k and continues to climb.

Here’s a better pic of the color I went with on the cage, calipers, and other suspension components.

Haha, yeah.

Honestly, I decided against painting the interior because I had planned on installing a lot of sound deadening as well as running a full interior.

If this were a track car with a fully stripped/caged interior, I definitely would have made the extra effort by paint matching the interior.

The important and visible areas were all properly painted. Unless someone decides to pull apart the interior in the future, you won’t see a spec of white on this.

I’ve also had minimal distractions these past two months. Parts of me wish I had focused on my hatch instead, but I’m just glad I’m making progress. I’ll be moving in 2018. The more assembled these cars are, the easier the move will be.

This is what a lot of true enthusiasts would strive for if we had the funds and patience to build a car to this level. The attention to detail is unreal. stripping everything for a paint job of that caliber, undercoating the car, oem aero, wheel and parts selection , THAT sr setup. Can't wait to see this shit done, so many years of collecting and waiting to see it finally come together. Definitely something to keep for life.

I really do enjoy the fact that you can't really tell I have drop knuckles/spindles. Too many "loud" colors with some of these aftermarket suspension component companies.

Should have the car back on the ground within the next week or so. Reassembling the complete rear subframe with baller bolts, SPL bushings, and PBM goodies.

Also managed to get more goodies for my brother's red Kouki build, but I'll keep that on the DL until we make more progress.
