Hello forums,

I am a new member who is looking to buy a 240sx. I want your opinion to see if $1400 is a good price for this S14 Zenki.

Lol, is that good or bad?

Lets go with bad lol. Just looks hideous with whatever the owner did to the front end.

TBH you should look for another 240. If the front end is any indication of how its been treated its a for sure pass.

does it even run? Lol. At that price I doubt it runs well, has minor rust or the like. It's probably a pile of dung and that's why the person it trying to get rid of it ASAP.

I think I remember seeing a video on youtube with a kid talking about the car. And how he was going to mold all these body panels on but "never got around to it".

I bet that car has 40lbs of filler on it.

Lol, Initial Drift is right. He posted a video of it for me. He was trying to mold the hood and bumper of a PONTIAC GRAND PRIX into the sock hood and bumper... It's not that bad, I've gone and looked at it. No rust, but ugly as hell.

THIS^

Molded rear bumper and fenders and skirts is a sure sign to steer clear. Unless, of course, you LOVE the way it looks and never ever want to change it, ever.

Thanks guys. I'll go look at it again and check for bondo.

The bondo is obvious since the skirts and rear bumper are all molded together and then to the car.

And then we can wonder why new members are becoming rare, and why other members are leaving this forum. ..hm.

Wanna240 : Really, it all depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to tear down what this person has done to this car (I'm assuming you don't want to keep the Pontiac parts), and build it as you see fit, go ahead. If you have the space, the funds, and the skills to do such a thing, let no one stop you.

Beyond being an older car, with typical older car problems, there isn't much you need to look out for. Belts, hoses, suspension bushings, ball joints...anything made of rubber really, brakes, rust, etc. are all typical things you want to look at.

Really problem areas with 240s are usually the owners (nothing personal fellow zilvians, this isn't directed toward anyone in particular). The crux with these cars is they're an entry level rwd car, readily available to the masses, and have tons of aftermarket support. This makes anyone with a basic tool set think they are capable/creative enough to rip into a car without any experience... usually leaving the car looking much like the one you're interested in purchasing. The trouble areas you want to look at are ANYTHING that was modified/touched/breathed on/looked at by the owner of the car. To do it right, you need a lot of knowledge, and even more practice, and this current car lacks both.

Again, for a cleaner chassis, with a good title, it could be an okay start..depending on your plans, just be cautious.

Thanks a lot for the kind response burnsauto. The car itself is pretty clean. No knocking from the engine, no rust. Only problem is, the body work is a little messed up. I am making it into a track car. I am prepared to do a lot of work to make it nice. And for $1400, even if it was a horrible car I could sell parts and make most of it back.

It sounds like you're really into it and ready to buy. I think you should do it because it would probably make you happy. Just make sure the numbers match.

I'd offer the seller like $300. Wouldn't bother paying much more

If the parts are shitty you'll get no money back. The market is already full of good parts.

Just try and find a stockish blown engine 240 or the like, its never worth it to buy something someone has fucked up so bad. Work already done on cars is usually done wrong by dumbasses

LOL, that is so true. I'm going to have to replace a few parts.

I'd steer clear of that abomination not worth the headache to fix all of the current owner's "mods". If you're in central VA, there are several s14s in way better condition but they're in the 3-5k range (gotta pay to play). Don't buy someone else's acid trip. My :2c:

you're better off doing what the dude above me says and waiting to buy one of those other ones for 3-5k.
By the time you get this thing into any sort of reasonable shape, not only will you be 3-5k deep anyways, but you still will be far behind because you had to bring the car back to a reasonable state before you could even begin adding your own style/mods.
trust that it will be worth it to save up for a few more months and buy something that hasn't been molested like that.

edit; the mold body work looks terrible anyways..
by the time you got normal sideviews, tail lights, a windshield, a hood, and if you somehow manage to change the body panels.. well you get my point by now.
