I feel newbish for asking this but...
Ok so my driver side window don't work.
It goes down just fine, but when I press the up button it just sits there in the down position.
My passenger side works, as does my sunroof...
If I manually pull the window up and then press UP again, the window falls! into the down position.
I think my leading theory is the the gearing in the motor is stripped, and under pressure it can't hold the window up so it falls.
Cliff Notes
The motor is humming when I press up and down.
Window goes down but not up.
When pulled up the window falls back down.

it might not be the gears. same thing happened to me (twice) and both times it was the wire thats on the regulator. its the part that attach with the gears. it pulls the window up and down. it may be off track or it may have broken and got tangled everywhere. pull thewindow regulator off and check it. if its the motor and gears i have a spare driver side one(i think).if itsthe regulator go to a junkyard they should go for about $30-$50. if your local i can check it out for you. im in the gardena/torrance area.

Let me get this straight.
Pull off the big gear I see on the door(3 screws), and thats the regulator?
Help much appreciated!

sounds like exactly what happened to me... had nothing to do with the gears. the 4 bolts that go through the glass fell out, just look around in the bottom of the door for some loose hardware, that should point you in the right direction (4 nuts, and a few big plastic washers)

same thing happened to me. scared the piss out of me! im sitting at a stop light. raining like a mother fucker. half asleep. BOOM! i propped my window up on a 1x4 piece of wood, im supposed to pick up some doors with all new shit for 60. my pass. side doesnt work either. the cord that raps around the regulator snapped. trust me its not your gears, theres nothing to mess the gears like that anyway they are pretty beefy, pull off your door panel and check it out.

it's not the gears, it's the wire that pulls the window up. Mine snapped a couple years ago and my window fell too. Easy to replace.

yah, he got it.... i was rolling mine up one time and it fell, scared teh shit outta me. there is a cable that is used to keep the window up and down, so if it breaks, it just falls b/c there is nothing holding it.

My manual window did that once, too, except it was stuck in the up position. The cable got tangled and wedged in a weird position and frayed.

You should also check inside the dimpled case that has the gear on the other side of it (one the motor). There is a rubber damper inside there, that connects the motor to the gear. Mine had torn so the window would just stay down. You should be able to tell if it is your cable by pulling the window up by hand. If the gears move it is not your cable and is most likely the rubber piece I am talking about. Good luck.

Yah it's not the cable....
Im going to check the regulator(?) today, and for that rubber thing(?).
Thanks for all the replies! I'm still looking, and thankfully I should have another door comming my way to check everything.
