I've been planning on buying either a 240sx or a 280z shell and drop in either a 350 Chevy v8 or an rb20det. I'm going to buy the engine first and then rebuild it before I even buy the car, that way I won't have a non running car laying in my driveway for at least a month... I've already found a complete rb20det engine and transmission for sale and already worked out a deal for $850 total for it. Only problem with it is that it's missing the Maf and clutch, which I would replace anyways. I also found a 5.7 vortec 350 engine out of a 2001 Chevy express van that I'm starting to lean into. It's a complete engine, but doesn't come with a transmission. I know that the 350 engine will be much easier for me and cheaper to mod and work on than the rb20det. The only problem I have is what transmission to use? I want a manual. Which engine is going to be the cheapest to swap, and which one is going to be the easiest is honestly what I want to know! I'm on a budget so I don't have a ton to spend. Any info would be great
Edit: forgot to mention that the 350 engine is $750, but I haven't tried to talk them down yet and I'm sure I can get it for $500 or less! Also I will rebuild both engines myself before dropping them into any car.

That's the link above to the ad. I love 240's and Ive been looking for a project car! I have another car as a daily. It says the head gasket is blown and probably warped head, that's not a big problem since I was probably going to rebuild the engine anyways. Anyone have any thoughts on if I should do it?

I might be buying an rb25det engine with transmission to build and then later drop into an s13 or s14 240sx body. My question is will the rb25det manual transmission fit in the car like how the original transmission would? Will the shifter line up how it's supposed to?

Dude you have asked the stupidest questions in the last 2 days.
I don't zilvia is the right place for the type of help you need
...............Because making decisions on your own is impossible.............
Putting in either of those engines is like gay sex, it can fit but a lot of work is required

buy an SR, build it from the ground up, install GT30R turbo, call it a day.
dont waste your time with an RB20 or some gross chevy V8.

If its a 280zx, its gotta have that L28 heh heh, also yes if its a 240
it deserves an sr,
RB20 is like a lame intermediate era engine, comparable to the the toyota 1g-gte, they're just kinda mediocre, go rb25 if you go rb.

if you're considering a chevy v8... why not a lm7? 5.3. they have loads of potential and they're super cheap. stock bottom ends see 600hp all the time and hold up to it. 5.3 big turbo, sikky swap kit, valve springs so you don't float the valves. all in all would cost you about 3500 for the engine set up. could throw it in stock for now and boost it later. i agree if you want rb20, just go 25, its worth the extra grand.

Yeah I would love to go rb25 but all together it's just not in my price range. I'm building as I go haha

I might look into that. The reason I'm thinking rb20 is because I heard it was a pretty much direct drop in, but it is an rb20 and not the 25... :ugh:

if a budget is what your going off of then 350 cause that motor has been around before jesus and parts are dumb cheap
if you wanna keep the Nissan pure then sr forget about the 20 parts r more hard to come by and when you think inline six 2.o liter is the last thing to come to mind
ever think about a vh45 motors r cheap its a Nissan so you wont piss all the huge Nissan fans off and parts r cheap and at autozone/orileys

buy an SR, don't build it from the ground up because it's not necessary and built SR's just pop, install a T28 turbo, get a good tune and, call it a day.

yeah don't bother "building" a motor.

Yeah it seems like a 350 would be best because they're so common and cheap and easy to build. I don't mind not staying Nissan pure as long as it's with gm. I'd only engine swap with a Nissan or gm engine and nothing else. I'll check out vh45 and see on it also.

I ended up going with the rb20det. Got it for an extremely good price! Only $600 engine and transmission. Now I'm gonna pull it apart next week and build it up soon! :coolugh:

I did my own research. I needed reason why to choose something and I didn't get much. I looked at other threads. The rb20 is the best engine for my budget. People just hate on it mainly because it's the smallest rb engine, even though it's still one of the better engine swaps. I read other threads and saw the advantages and disadvantages. Please don't comment something like that when the thread gave me no explanation. I did my own research and found what I need.

What kind of forum is this? Everyone goes against the new guy? I'm just wanting a forum for advice to help with my project... lol what did I say on here to make me a badass? I made the thread to get some opinions from people who have did the swaps to give me some info about how they feel about them. I got the engine. Now I'll make a build thread later once I start working on it.

They are pretty much the same engine. I think they will both fit. But you may need to change the fuel lines.

fine fine. You will need the r33 crossmember if its an s13, other wise it will probably sit all gross. Most of the mount kits and stuff are on enjuku. I got the syko mount kit, and it seems very high quality. also you probably are just gonna wanna buy a custom harness just cuz its easier. obviously like fuel lines and a pump and shit. inter:coolugh:er and all the stuffs etc
Also i haven't tried it but when you load the engine in load it up from the bottom, supposedly its easier especially with an rb

no replacement for shoelace...
I mean no displacement, for replacement, or something like that :D

Nothing wrong with the rb20, minus parts aren't as easy as source compared to the sr. If you have the money to spend I'd go v8.

You don't even have a car, why are you in such a hurry to buy the cheapest engine you can get for your imaginary car? Why not buy a running car to start with and then put together an engine swap you really want? Do you understand the definition and application of the word LOGIC?
Oh, wait. You did it because you're trying to throw some POS together for as cheap as possible. Anyone wanna start a pool on how long it takes for this "project" to end up in the "doing it wrong" thread???

That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've read. I have a car. This is my PROJECT. You think I would do this if I didnt?! And once I'm done with the engine build I'll drop it into another cheap 240sx. So now I don't have to sit around with a car laying in my driveway waiting for the engine to be finished and who knows how long that will take. I already have the engine and transmission also. Everything you said tells me you didn't use enough of a brain to actually read before you go on a rage reply.
Do you even understand what it is going to take to put any engine into a 240sx that didn't come from an S chassis.
Buys cheapass engine and car to save money. Doesn't realize he needs
-new harness
- clutch
-exhaust
-custom engine mounts
-custom system to get speedo working
-custom driveshaft
-custom cooling system
And your shifter won't sit in the middle of your shifter hole
You know what does fit into an S13? A ka24de. You know what fits better on a ka than an rb into the s13? A turbo. The amount you spend on half assed parts to get the RB even sitting in the car could have gotten you a ka with more power than the rb, easily. And time, I don't even want to get started on that.
And your mom is going to be soooo pissed at you for leaving your POS Lego colored 2 fourdy at her house for 4 years while you try to sell it. Being 22, living with roomates, no garage, no college degree, and doing physical labor for work, is not the time to have a project.
I vote 3 months before we see a POS 240 with an RB20 for sale for parts under a new screen name.

Haha your funny. You enjoy bashing on people online bro? I chose the engine why do you care? I'm sorry that it makes you so mad and that you care so much by the decisions I do with my own money in my own life that you write a freakin page against it. Keep wasting your time with remarks like that and let me build my own project. You need to learn to worry about yourself. I'm gonna attempt to do this because that's what I do. And if it doesn't work out? Yeah I'll sell it and it won't hurt me at all. But yeah let it bother you enough to make you wanna do something about it just because I chose the rb20det engine, and because I bought it before I have the car which is already smarter imo. Oh btw I know I need most of that stuff. I got the money to cover it. I'm 16 and doing this all with my own earned money and my own skill and hopefully help from this forum, which I haven't got much of yet.

I might be buying an rb25det engine with transmission to build and then later drop into an s13 or s14 240sx body. My question is will the rb25det manual transmission fit in the car like how the original transmission would? Will the shifter line up how it's supposed to?
I've been planning on buying either a 240sx or a 280z shell and drop in either a 350 Chevy v8 or an rb20det.
Also your signature says you are 23 yet you said you are 16. The more you lie the worse its going to be.
For example, I would no longer feel comfortable buying your POS LEGO Colored 240 with a failed RB20 swap that is parked at your moms house because you have a history of lying. "FS: Perfect 240sx, perfect rb20, rebuilt with all brand new parts." Since you have lied already, to me this says, "He is lying about something and I dont want to spend my money to find out what it is, I will skip his ad."
But I am sorry about bashing you, you can do it!!!
