So i just had the the engine and transmission rebuilt professionally.

Its been 5k miles now. Using only Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic and Nissan OEM oil filters

Im switching to Amsoil 5w30.

Anybody use Amsoil? Do you guys go 25k as advertised? I was thinking of going 25k before I changed the oil. 5k oil filter interval changes using OEM filters.

Anybody use Amsoil oil filters?

From my research online and learning about the different types of oil and their categories: I-IV Amsoil seems to be on top of everything.

I just think using Amsoil will be cheaper in the long run. But I would like to hear from those who have used it.

No I dont race or drift my car. I drive it to college. I like the way it looks and I wont be driving it hard (often).

You're doing it all wrong. You need to run a conventional non synthetic for the first 1000 miles before switching to a synthetic so that the rings seat correctly. And Id never go more than 5k on an oil change. I change my oil between every drift event.

I did. And added zinc additive. Changed after 30 minutes of running. And at 300 miles. And at 1000 miles I switched to Mobil 1. Do you use AmSoil? And I don't drift my car. It's not driven hard. Maybe spirited driving down back roads on the weekend but not much.

About half the cars I own and maintian use amsoil products, I personally love their oil and manual trans fluid.

Did you see any sparkles in the drained oil? That would indicate metal shavings.

Oil change interval data is much better over there, and universal.

I am taking it the car is a KA non turbo? If so you have a great plan, stock S chassis and ones that aren't bashed all to hell by drifters are going to be very rare one day. Take care of it.

I didn't actually do the oil change myself the first time. The engine builder and installer did.

Yes non turbo ka

How long do you go before an oil change? I have the signature series oil and they say up to 25k or 700 hours. I was thinking 15k is a good median?

It has 5k on the engine now. I changed it at 30 minutes. 300 miles. 1k and 5k now. I normally do Mobil 1 every 5k with an OEM Nissan filter.

I was the under the impression that you have to use non-synthetic non-detergent 30w for the first 1000 mile break in period :-/. I kinda thought this was so there was some film accumulation, before you start using detergent oils, makes it less likely that you will develop a knock or get shavings like above posted. It something you usually have to ask for, cause its not really sold on the shelf at every auto parts store i've been too.

But maybe u should listen to the OG's , probably a good idea

personally i've been using amsoil in my 240 and other cars for 4-5 years now. i use the z-rod oil (added zinc content) and i have two cases of their oil for my next engine. one is their engine break in oil, and a case of z-rod for after its broken in.

i've run up to 4500-5k miles between oil changes with no noticeable degradation of the oil, and no abnormal discoloration/burning. i'm pretty heavy on my car and have done some rather long trips in it (socal----chicago----shawano---and back)

If you are going long Work your way out, try like 8k first see if there is much change, I personally don't go beyond 15k which is the service interval on my 12 rover v8. Just cant seem to put that much faith in oil. it still gets dirty, breaks down etc.

Yeah I guess I'll do that. Start off at 8. Then try 10. And maybe get up to 15. I'm iffy about 25k but from what I've heard from Amsoil users this stuff lasts and that's why it's good. $37 for oil every 15k is cheaper than $20 for Mobil 1 every 5k.

I use amsoil in my SR. I used Rotella for my first change but my break ins consist of putting the car on the dyno.

I run Z-rod 20w 50 as the car runs 30 minute sessions for HPDE weekends. No burnt smell, consistent oil pressure even at the end of a session throughout the weekend.

Cool beans. I assume you change your oil more often than I would right?

I'm about to run my second event with it. This is also running mid 300 whp. My brother uses amsoil in his dodge diesel. I believe he does 15k changes.

step one.
order this kit
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits.php

step two
drive your car 5k miles for test

step three
change oil and collect some in this kit

step four
mail in oil sample

step five
wait for it to return with results of what is in your oil.

go on their website and read up how this test works.

i run my evo 5k miles in between oil changes with regular mobil 1 10w30 and nothing but the average amounts of wear show up in the oil.

I was just concerned with how long others have gone with amsoil oil before changing it. I know mobil 1 is a great oil. Im not debating whether or not either Amsoil or Mobil 1 is good. I just wanted to know if it was safe to go 15k on Amsoil since they advertise 25k miles. Mobil 1 advertises 10k so thats why I cut it in half and change my oil and filter every 5k. So with Amsoil I am going to go 15k before I change the oil and I will still change my OEM Nissan filters every 5k. I will also take this sample and post the results for you guys.

I agree, I run 10w40 Castrol GTX in my LS1 and change after events. I do however run AMSOIL Fluid in my T56.

I also run AMSOIL Signature Series 10w30 in my '12 Mustang 5.0 and I love it. I go close to 12 months on oil changes (I dont even drive the car 5,000 miles a year, so that doesnt apply to me).

Have an Oil analysis done if you really want to see whats up and what they recomend regarding intervals.

5k and test and they tell you when you should change your oil?

I'm running AMS oil OE 10/30 in my supra and love it. But even though its synthetic i will never let the oil get as old as 5k. hell, i change my oil soon as it gets that tinge where its starting to get dark.

The best way to avoid sludge is to change the oil BEFORE it gets black. Alot of people think, well it says it can maintain its lubricity up to 6k.

But all the while when your approaching even 3-4 k your oil is becoming black, and even if it does maintain its consistency its still circulating in your oil system and those particulates do stick.

Anyways

Like people have said with engine break in running a conventional oil will allow some controlled engine wear.

Personally i built my ka24e-t in 2010 and ran royal purple engine break in oil, despite the negative comments on royal purple. My engine in the 240 is still strong and steady and the internals are doing great. However i no longer use royal purple, i just Napa 10/30 with one quart of lucas oil stabilizer. It really helps with my oil pressure since i have an oil cooler on mine.

blackstone lab tests dont just allow you to see how well the oil holds up it also shows you how your engine is holding up if your engine is producing copious amounts of particles the best oil in the world wont last the recommended interval...for what its worth most european manufacturers run at least a 10k interval on synthetic oil and decent filters if you have a good quality filter and some good oil your good brand name is usually a preference alot of amsoil stuff is hyped up until you get to some of their specialty oils (mtfs and etc) in my jeep i do a 6500 oil change with shell rotella t6 and a wix filter on my vw tdi its 10k with rotella t6 and a mann filter and when i do get a 240sx it will probably be 5k mobil 1 with wix filter and do a blackstone and go from there
