Tinted Windows

I have a 96 s14 se,, it is the dark blue green kinda color... umm,, i'm sure some of u have seen it.  I was wondering how i should get my windows tinted.  I was thinking about a 5% mirror tint.. but i'm not sure it will go well with my paint.. Any ideas?  U guys'd know better than i :)  thanks..  i'll have some pics of my car in a few days if you need to know what color paint it is before u can respond :),, thanks agian.

try one window and see how you like it than go from there
i prefer the black tint my self
but the make a tint that is a blue color check some sites and see what you can find

I don't like the bluish/purplish tint either.  I haven't seen a 240SX that didn't look good with tinted windows.  I think they look better with tint, than without tint.

5% mirror tint is a little much.  Check with the laws in your area.  The problem is that 5% is dark anyway.  But mirror makes cops get pissed.  And so 5% mirror is gonna get you some tickets.

Stick with a normal black tint. Mirror looks wrong on 99% of cars I see it on. Although I was going to get a double layered tint on my old silver s13. One 35% Black and then one layer of 35% Mirror behind the black. Might of looked cool... but I will never know.

Mirrored goes well on black cars with chrome.  But not 5%, unless you don't like haveing a fat wallet.

i did that on a black 1990 bmw and it looked NASTYYY!!
but when you got in side it was so hard to see out of it

uhh,, sorry i didn't mean 5 %,, i was thinking the wrong way.. lol,, i ment like a 35 or so % mirror.. so that it is real mild,, lol,, sorry bout that.. i forgot which % was more tint... i think that blue tint would be sweeet,, but where can i find it?.. and how much should i expect to spend do you all think?.. and should i do the rear window?. &nbsp;is it hard for them to tint?. &nbsp;i know integra rear windows are a b!tch,, but i wasn't sure bout 240's. &nbsp;<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> again,, i'm pretty new, &nbsp;But thanks for the replies so far, &nbsp;i appreciate it.

are you planing on doing this your self??
if so i will only cost you about $40 for the tint
but if you get it done professionaly well i cant tell you that because every where is diferent if you live in FL that it is rather cheep but if you live in a place that has few places that do it than i will cost more
but if you do it your self the back window it not that hard just use a hair drier

Figgers, my car came with a very dark purplish tint. UGLY!! Blue might not be bad, but I'd stick with plain jane black if it was my vehicle

Dark tint all the way. &nbsp;20% is a good compromise. &nbsp;Not too dark to attract cops but enough to give you privacy. &nbsp;Chrome/Mirrored tint looks too cheesy. &nbsp;Dark on any color looks good.

I don't like blue, purple, or mirrored tint. &nbsp;Our cars (s13's and s14's) are too &quot;classy&quot; looking to do something like that to it. &nbsp;The purple and blue tints look like they're just old and faded. &nbsp;I say go with black tint and make sure it's a good quality tint, or it will start turning purplish on you after a few years. &nbsp;I paid almost $300 to do an old Geo Prizm of mine and after 5 years, it wasn't turning purple on me. &nbsp;A friend of mine got her 92 Accord (not a ricer, though) done for $150 (shop was running a special) and after 3 years it was turning purple and bubbling on her. &nbsp;I'd definitely pay more to go to a reputable shop known for good quality tint.

ask for a titanium oxide based tint, rather than a dyed tint. the dyes will fade and turn purple. I've been quoted $185 for my s14 with Llumar tint, which won't fade. Another place will do it for probably $135, and each of these has a very good reputation. My friend got his supraTT done by them and it was very nice.

forget tinting, just smoke thw windows. &nbsp;Its more expensive, but well worth it. &nbsp;Looks real pro

I'm sure you have all seen the lexus SUV's.. &nbsp;Does anyone have any idea what tint is on the rear windows of that thing? &nbsp;I'm thinking that color might look good on a blue green car like mine,, just a thought, let me know what you guys think <img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>.

that is electronic tint it does not peal, fade or scrach
you can get this done to your car but it is very (i repeat very expencive)$$$$ but it is garantied for LIFE

same with smoking them. &nbsp;its forever. &nbsp;price estimate: basically double the most expensive tinting price you can find.

Llumar tint is gauranteed for life too!! &nbsp;
But anyway.. my fave tint is what comes with the McLaren F1.
It is some electric window thing that &quot;senses&quot; when it gets dark, shoots electricity through the window, and it gets dark somehow.
I'm not very techy... but I know I want one...

you'll have to check the laws in your state, but in texas 35% on driver and passenger windows and 5% on the back windows is the darkest you can go. this is what i have and to back up at night i have to roll the windows down to see. you can't see in my car though and that's what i wanted. normal prices is around 150 down here. although i got mine done for 100. &nbsp;

another thing, my friend has the mirrored tint on his GTI, it looks like shit. it keeps the sun out but you can still see in. dark black tint is the way to go. just my 2 cents.

I've had 15% on all my windows for nearly two years (first thing I had done to the car) and have so far (knock on wood) not had any problems with the law......my car is black and I think it makes the car look sinister (for lack of a better word:)

I got lucky with my tint. &nbsp;At first I had this nasty dark purple tint when I bought my car. &nbsp;It was peeling and stuff so I took it in to get it redone. &nbsp;I have an s13 fastback so that rear window costs a lot of money to get stripped and redone....they were asking 220 for just the back window. &nbsp;What I did was I called around to the local bmw and lexus dealerships and they all go to the same guy. &nbsp;He's this guy named gary who does tinting for 4 different dealerships. &nbsp;He uses Llumar tinting with a guarantee that if it cracks bubbles or fades you can get it replaced for free at any place that does tinting. &nbsp;I got as dark as possible in houston which is about limo tint and I have a dark blue colour car. &nbsp;It looks awesome and I got it all done (the whole car) for 130 dollars.

how would i check to c what their work is like? &nbsp;Most of my buddies bought their cars allready tinted, and the ones that didn't haven't had their cars long enough to tell me if it lasts.. Should i look for someone that does the llumar tinting? is that just a brand of tint? ii'm not sure i understand completely,, but u say i should be able to get my whole car done for under 150:) &nbsp;that'd be nice.. &nbsp;i got a s14 btw, will that make it easier or harder than a s13 fastback?&gt;

First off, Llumar is a brand of tint. &nbsp;I had no idea that there was a difference between brands but apparently there is. &nbsp;The guys I went to worked basically in a wherehouse with lights and some chairs. &nbsp;The only reason I went with them is because of the guarantee/warantee on the tint and the fact that luxury car dealerships were using them for customer tinting. &nbsp;As for the price, an s14 could be cheaper because of the lack of a hatchback. &nbsp;For the hatchback they had to use one giant piece of tint and cut it perfectly and all and they had to peel the old tint off. &nbsp;Since the s14 has no hatchback it would probably be cheaper, although the back seat windows are a little bigger.
