Hey everyone,
Got a quick question. I want to separate my light covers from the housing. I know I should bake them but what temperature and how long. I can't stand the altezzas on the evo and want to paint them.

i did this to my zenki lights. i put them on for like 200* and just left it in there till they got pretty warm. just watch them and touch them every 2 minutes till you burn your hand then take them out and pry it open.

Just for the sake of another option to the altezzas, a lot of Evo owners go the route of the Evo VII taillights ... they make the rear of the car look much improved, IMO. But then again completely replacing the lights will be more costly then sticking them in an oven. Just my 2 cents.

There is a thread in the FAQ section that has how to do it. It's for headlight cleaning.

be careful. gas ovens and electric ovens vary a lot, with the latter being a bit weaker (at least in my case). Set the temp to 200F for a first timer...you can't go wrong with leaving them in there for abotu 8 minutes, checking on them, and then leave it in for another 5 min but monitoring very closely.
the part of the headlight to watch for is the outside edges. Be sure you don't see them melting/deforming or anything....

Hey what's up!
Thanks for all the input gents. On the Evo forums there are a few guys that will do the painting for you but charge an arm and a leg for it and everyone just replied "send it to him".
Not many people on the Evom forum do their own work. I will give this a shot this weekend and if I melt them or screw them up I will just get the Evo VII tails.
BTW- Evo VII tails run about $400 :wtf:

what about regular lancer taillights, I like them better than the altezza style...

why go through so much trouble JUST for color? LED baby.. its ALL about LED.
besides, you guys assume the tail lights can be taken apart. some lights (lexus is for example) cannot be easily disassembled.

Mike,
If I am not mistaken the stock Evo VIII tails are LED.
The regular lancer tails won't fit. They have a pointed edge on the fender-side of the light. I am assuming the lights do come apart because there is already a guy that will paint the inside of the light cover for you

i dont think they are LED, do you have any verified sources that show this?
i looked at the mitsu web site, no listing of LED under exterior OR safety features, so i highly doubt it my man. besides, if they were LED i would know... but, there is always a 1% chance that i am wrong.

Twinturbo.net has some writeups on how to do it. Although I would leave it up to the master... old s13.

I think if he's complaining that the evo lights are $400, having old_s13 do it is a little out of the question ;)
