Well.. Why not make a build thread to document the ridiculous amount of time and money that's went into this thing over the last 8 months.

The car's original intention was to be a pro-am build, but then my irritation with constantly redoing my car to match my driving ability caught up with me and I figured why not just build something that can compete at all levels and go as far as my driving can possibly progress.

Alright!

I picked up my coupe back in 2012, it was a bone stock shell at the time, completely stripped down as the original owner was planning on doing a crazy pro-am build but no longer had the time.

Since getting it, I swapped in a ka24e, drove a lot of events at Evergreen Drift in Washington in 2012, the following 2 years would consist of tons of additional events and gradual changes to the car to match my progression as a driver, including swapping in a 1uzfe V8 motor from a Lexus LS400.

Then September 2014 comes around, and I'm wanting to try for my pro 2 license in the 2015 pro am series.. Here's what ensued.

For those not wanting to read through the build.. here's the general specs on the car:

S13 Coupe
2JZGTE VVTi, 10:1 CP Pistons, Eagle Rods, lots of head work, etc, etc.
1100cc Injector Clinic injectors for leaded 110 fuel.
Injector Clinic fuel rail.

Radium fuel cell surge tank, aem-50-1000 lift pump, 2 aem-50-1000 fuel pumps.
Stock intake manifold with modified mkiv supra throttle body
vmount intercooler and radiator
GForce GSR 4-Speed Dog Box
Tilton triple disc clutch (holds 1,100ft-lbs+ of torque for $300, win!)
AutoDeriva flywheel
BW S300SX 8375 Turbo
Quick Spool valve
Tial BOV
Precision 44mm wastegate to dump
Full straight pipe exhaust
Haltech full engine management + RacePak

Lots of stuff happened, car was painted - we were frantically trying to get everything assembled at this point to make the first round of pro am but didn't make it due to issues that were out of our hands.

Here's where the car currently stands:

I'll be updating as it gets closer to completion. Right now the car is still in need of a tune, and a few other minor things - should be shredding again by the end of the month!

Man awesome fab and engine work. From first picture i didn't know you put rocket bunny flares and painted orange on purpose then I saw that's the final look, I think it's just the wheels that don't flow maybe.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

The Cosmis wheels are actually getting changed out for something different. My fronts don't clear as much as I'd like, so I'll be dropping down to 17's in the front, and swapping out the Azenis for some 245/35/17 Toyo R1R's to make the most out of the angle kit.

Not quite sure what style to go with for the new wheels, maybe something dished? Hmm.

Clicked on the thread fully prepared to be mad, but this is awesome.

Also, hooray for switching wheels. The rest of the car is way too rad for those cheesy-looking Cosmis things.

It's a kit in prototype stage coming from Autoderiva soon. It utilizes an auto 2jz bellhousing, custom adapter plate and 1 piece flywheel machined to use Tilton triple disc clutches for 26 or 29 spline inputs, or any quarter master works as well. Pretty great, considering my clutch was only $300 for my Tilton triple disc and is rated to 1,200ft lbs of torque.

Kit should be around $2,000~ for everything to mate a dogbox and get it working with a 2jz.

Here's a picture of the prototype flywheel:

Some great news.

The car has been dyno'd and is going great. The flywheel came in and the drivetrain and 95% of the car is finished!

Here's a teaser video of lighting up the shop's driveway.

The car is currently running 28psi on the BW 8375 turbo. This thing comes on like a fucking banshee with the VVTi, quick spool, short piping, high compression and all of the secret bits we've added in.

Here's the video, definitely worth the watch! I bet you haven't heard a JZ come online like this one does!

https://youtu.be/GFQXU9c2AzE

Also, here's the car as it sits right now. Just finishing up aligning body panels and fixing some small things!

Looks like you are using 350z axles with adapters to the 2x3 stub shafts. I'm guessing they are the Maverick adapters? Have you had any issues using that setup? I tried the same adapters and axles on my coupe, after installing everything i drove it around the block to check that it all worked and both inner cv's failed and fell apart inside the adapters... So that was a no go and I went back to stock axles :( It seems like that the adapters having the centers machined out leaves nothing to hold the cv grease cap and internals in the cv so everything just popped out and broke.

Yes, I'm using the Maverick adapters with Nismo z33 axles

Interesting, perhaps bad axles? I haven't had a problem yet - the car however hasn't seen the track up to this point either.

I know specifically you can experience issues with these axles if you run negative camber, or don't have a wide enough rear track width to allow play in the joints with compression / rebound of the suspension (Why Maverick requires 0 camber on factory rear lca's). I am however running wisefab in the rear, which has widened my rear track to the point of fitting the axles great.

I will definitely post up if I begin experiencing issues.

They were good axles, and I was running 0 camber. I think the rear track actually needs to be widened a bit for them to work properly. So maybe you will be good with the wisefab rear.

Hey guys, got this thing out for a track day and a good shake down.

We ran into a couple issue with the car but I was still able to get a small feel for what this thing will be when it's 100%.

The main issues for the day were my accessory belt flying off every run due to the amount of torque the motor makes (Common JZ problem) and me not having a tensioner lock or anything else on the tensioner.

The other, more irritating issue was my boost control solenoid shitting out every now and again causing the car to spike boost and hit my overboost cut, which shut the cars revs to 4500 rpm and just dumped fuel - you can easily here when the car is doing this in the video, the whole tone of the motor will change under throttle, and places where I should be taking a high line I'll be taking a super shallow one

Anyways, enjoy!

Awesome! Works wonders, best thing I ever purchased for the 2j. My vvti though had to be revamped to do the tension pulley being a different style then non vvti. My year vvti had a nut to bolt style tension, where the xcessive is setup for the bolt style tension. Hopefully yours isnt like mine. If it is you will need to have Rich switch it up.

Kit should be around $2,000~ for everything to mate a dogbox and get it working with a 2jz.

plus another $8,0000 for the dogbox. I hope one day to be able to run a G-force GSR.

I paid $5,000 for mine through RTS - got a rebuilt one with used case and works fantastic.

That's a good price. G-force South sells their rebuilts for more than that. Does RTS have a website?

Some testing from last week on the Evergreen Speedway 5/8th's bank.

First time hitting it, lines were pretty awful to start until I figured where I could throw the car and grip up before hitting the wall.
