I came around this shop that sells JDM cars from Japan a few weeks back. I went there just to go look at some cars when I saw a U.S. spec 240sx sitting there. They were selling a 1997 240sx SE with a 1997 Kouki SR20DET in it. It has a blitz front mount intercooler, koyo radiator, greddy type-s blowoff valve, full silk-road suspension, nismo gt pro LSD, blitz turbo timer, and some other goodies. The exterior and interior are completely stock. The reason why it was there was because someone traded it in for an exact replica of the car except it was a JDM right hand drive version of it. I've been wanting a 1997-1998 240sx for a while as a daily driver so I thought about buying it.
Now here's the thing, the shop wanted the car for 15,500. That was a bit pricey for me so the lowest I got from them was 13,900. I believe the car is worth it, it's not often you find a Japanese JDM dealer that stands behind a U.S. spec 240sx converted to JDM. I have about 7,000 and I was thinking about financing the rest. I'm having a little trouble finding a place to get a loan so I thought about buying a bone stock 1997-1998 240sx. I like the kouki look of the car and I thought about starting from scratch instead of buying one that's already fixed up. However, here in Southern Cali, those years of the 240sx are very rare and I couldn't find one. I called all the Nissan dealerships, used car dealerships, and online for this car. But none came up.
So I ask you guys, would it be alright to just get a 1995-1996 Zenki version of the 240sx and convert the front end to Kouki or Strawberry? There are many 1995-1996 240's around my area so I think that is my only choice right now. The Kouki and the Zenki chassis are the same right? If I put in a S14 SR20DET Kouki motor, would it be just as good or the same as a 1997-1998 S14?
Should I keep searching for a loan to get that S14 from the shop? Keep searching for a stock 1997-1998 240sx? or just get a 1995-1996 240sx and convert it?
Thanks guys.
