I Went 173mph today!!!! whats the fastest you've been?

O.K. here goes, I was sitting at home today when I hear an unexpected knock on the door, I open the door to find my good friend Jon H. standing in my doorway. Behind him is his dad's 2001 electric blue Porsche 996, with 18" FIKSE mesh wheels 9" in back 8" in front, H&R springs, and B&B exhaust. He simply says "Let's go" with an evil grin on his face needless to say I had my shoes on within 1.5 seconds flat and was strapped in the passenger seat even quicker. The car is non-turbo and a 6 speed, stock 1/4 mile of 13.3 but remember he has exhaust. We leave my neighborhood quietly and make our way to the local interstate I-4 within a minute or so. Traffic was moderate but we couldn't get a good stretch of road in front of us with no cars, I am eagerly awaiting the sounds and feel of this car, getting slightly aggitated by the seemingly endless aray of cars until we reached a major exit and the traffic thinned out enough for full throttle, he slowed to around 40mph dropped 2nd gear and we were off, the sound was pure bliss, the endless torque and smooth as silk power delivery were absolutely flawless! 3rd, 4th, 5th still put me pack in the seat! he held 5th to 151 mph went to 6th and it was still pulling, 160, 165, 170 traffic rapidly approaching, 173! Then suddenly it felt like a loco-motive hit us head on as he put his foot down hard on the massive 13" rotors, I thought we were going to endo! just slight chirping from the Michelin Pilots as the ABS worked feverishly to slow this blue demon down. What a F#@%ing rush! We got off at the next exit no doubt pulling close to a G around the off ramp. I was speechless. We headed back to my house and for one last thrill we came to a stop sign to turn right, he looked out for Johnny Law then brought the revs up to a wonderful melody, dumped the clutch and turned the wheel. We were sidways for quite awhile until the rev limiter kicked in somewhere over 7000 then a quick flick of both wrists and the car was straight and chirping second, the people walking on the sidewalk were just gawking at us with a surprised look on their faces. Well unfortunately for me the ride was over, but it will live on in my memories until I die.

i'll member that story, even if i wasn't involved :biggrin: fastest i've ever been is 130 in a 2001 bmw 328ci, 110 in my s-14, n e one know what the speed is governed at in out s-14a's?

my neon acr maxed out at 118mph on I-5, so i'd probably guess its about the same for the s14.  
to find out for sure, you just need the speed code from the stock tires.  for example, 185-60-T14, T means the top speed is 119, so that's what the manufacturer set the top-speed limiter to.

I got my sister's '89 s13 automatic up to 130 MPh (at best guess, stoopid speedometer <img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> ) back before I sold it to her. Governor was apparently cut by the last owner. Current '92 s13 still governed, only can hit 114. 240s can get #### fast, just stopped by the governor. With that much speed out of the less powerfull SOHC engine, I'd bet the DOHC s13 and s14 could probably beat that by a wee bit. I love wide open Nevada highways!

I was thinking the gov. on the 240sx was at 122mph...but if it is at 114, the fastest I've been is about 118mph in the Accord I just recently got rid of.

I don't understand the 240's speedo. &nbsp;It will easily hit the gov...probably could do 140 without it. &nbsp;But you'd never know by the speedo 'cause it only goes to frikkin' 110mph. &nbsp;My Accord speedo maxed at 140, but it could never hit it b/c it kinda hits an aerodynamic wall at 110mph. &nbsp;

Is there any way to change the speedo face to max at 130-140 and recalibrate it to be accurate??

I used to have an 87 celica gt-s and i got it up to about 135mph. Two weeks later, the engine blew...In the 240, I've gone just a little beyond the 110 mark but then the governer kicks in...In my little civic, i can go about 120 before it hits the gas shutoff.

176 mph is my fastest...

It was in my roomie's '92 3000GT twin turbo on some back highways. The only mods were a K&amp;N air filter and dual Borla exhaust system. Too bad he doesn't have it anymore...was a really fun car to drive and ride in.

More of a rush than screaming past things on the highway at 176, though, was racing around a backwoods lake on a little, two lane residential road. I guess he always took his cars out there to play, and I got to ride in it with him the first time he went out there. Any car that can take a very tight set of three right angle turns (left, right, left) will give you an adrenaline rush that lasts for an hour. <img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> He only lost control and started a sideways skid out of the last turn when the inertia of the car was just too much for the partially bald tires. And even at that, we only had to drop to about 65 mph before it recovered and he dropped it into 2nd gear as we tore off around the rest of the lake.

I read an article about a guy that rented a van from a rental company that had GPS on it. It stated in his contract that he couldn't go over 80 mph in the rental. n MA, there is a loop hole in the law saying they can not mail u tickets by just viewing... however, this is untrue now with the cameras at the tolls... when u run the toll before, they can not mail u &nbsp;a tickets even though they too a picture of it... however this has recently changed... i heard they are putting cameras up on the road to catch you speeding, they have it in Canada already... just today i got my 90 200sx up to 130 and had lot's of rpm's left, i did'nt go any faster cause i'm afraid of the camerea's they have here in england. My old 85 300zx n/a got up to 130 then hit the limiter, also be careful going 176 on I-4, it is the only road that i ever got a ticket on (still don't know where the cop was hiding) and i'm not even gonna bring up the traffic on that intertate:)

Huh? Do you really believe that the US has their top engineers working on speed cameras so they can keep up with the revenue collection technology of Japan and Canada (roflmfao)? The reason we don't have many cameras on the streets is because they are an invasion of privacy, a possible way to abuse the traffic safety system, and we just don't like em. The authorities are slowly trying to incorporate the red light cameras but with very small fines and lots of restrictions. There are alot of legal battles and uproar over putting these things out on the streets.

I was in my old car, a '96 Corvette, 11.02 1/4 time with about 500 hp. &nbsp;I hit 189 in 6th on I-75 in FL.

Side Note- I have gone past the 120 mark on my '96 240sx speedo. &nbsp;I guess it was around 122, but it sure did take forever to get there. &nbsp;It hits 110 FAST, then a little slower to 115, and took a minute and a half or so to hit 122. &nbsp;Auto trans, 5100 rpms. &nbsp;Man I need a JWT ecm!

115 in my 240sx with the speed limiter. 165 in my friend's 300ZX TT. he has an ECU upgrade and some other goodies. we were racing a trans am and we beat her badly. we could have gone much faster because he said he wasn't at redline yet, but our exit was coming up and up ahead was where cops always enter the highway. going that fast for the first time, time almost stands still, and cars' tail lights look like blurs. that's something we'll never do again...

My first Nissan was a 84 300Z Turbo which I had up to 142 mph. &nbsp;I think it could have given a bit more, but just didnt have enough road to get it. &nbsp;It took about 21/2 miles to reach this speed. &nbsp;Above 130 it went very slow. &nbsp;I had heard that the fuel pump was the cause of this. &nbsp;I have broken 110 only once or twice in the 240. &nbsp;

I have seen vids of the S2000 going 175, but it wont be happening with ME in the car. &nbsp;

First of all, lets keep most of our racing on the tracks boys. &nbsp;I did some pretty crazy things when I was young and thought I'd live forever...man do I ever regret them now. &nbsp;BTW most accidents happen on back country roads cuz most people seem to think they're safer somehow and therefore go nuts on them. If they're safer, having some idiot drift around dirt shoulders is sure to make them dangerous in a millisecond!

What does that mean? Your engine travels at the same speed as your car. The speedometer measures the rotational speed of your driveshaft and calculates speed based on the stock rear end gears and tire/wheel size. Your engine may have the potential to make your car go faster if there was less friction or wind resistance but it would have to rev higher to get the drive shaft turning faster.

i hit 98 on this back road down the street from me it is about 1/6 of a mile and the road rocks like a roler coster small little hills that love to get as much air under the car as posable so i dump the clutch into 3rd around the turn and look down the road and said do it got to the half way mark hit 4th and stomped back down on the gas
got to the end where i had to start braking for the next turn look down at the speedo and 98!!!!
scared the piss out of my friend in the pasenger seet
we got back to my house and his legs were still shaking

Anyway, back to cars. &nbsp;I took a stock '91 240sx SE up to 114mph on the test drive. &nbsp;Good thing the dealer didn't come with me for that one. &nbsp;I decided to buy it, and during the two years I owned it, I could never push it past 114 without a hill. &nbsp;The speedometer was digitial, and when I DID have the benefit of a hill, it would stop counting at 125.

Actually, amusing story. &nbsp;A friend owns a 240 as well. &nbsp;We were cruising down a long, straight, down hill high-way tucked back from busy areas in my 240. &nbsp;We were both sitting in calm silence as the road flew by. &nbsp;He turned his head to my speedometer, paused, and turned his head to look out the windshield again. &nbsp;A few seconds later, he said, calm as anything, &quot;Heh .. I didn't know these things went 125&quot;. &nbsp;Equally as calm, I said &quot;Yup. &nbsp;They do.&quot; &nbsp;We fell silent again and stayed that way until we got where we were going. =)

The fastest I have ever been in my car (Toyota Camry) is 105, and it was gradually moving, but i didn't want to stay in that speed that fast, plus my friend was screaming all crazy.

But when I was in Zimbabwe my uncle, keep in mind he was drinking while driving:eek: , reached 225 kmh but then his wife, who was also drinking, finally told him to slow down.

i have gone countless times @ 125 mph, my rpm's in 5th are 4700 in my 92 240sx w/ a 93 ka24de, rev limiter kicks in @ 4700 rpm - 125mph on many highways. fastest ive gone is in a 92 maxima- speedo said 125 but i smashed it to about 140 mph ? estimating, i was flying and it flet like a boat. lol ,. fastest acceleration was in a 300zx na about 70-75 mph in second gear in a small residential street, i had to put in in 3rd just to lower revs but i ran out of street. when i get my rev limiter out(apexi ecu) imma smash atleast 150 in my 240. and ive hit 115 in my 89 mazda 323, poor little thing is in need of minor work. but its reliable as hell.

Fastest that I have driven was 115 in my miata down a 2 lane road and past my friend. In my volvo I hit 110 on 95 with the windows down. But the fastest I have ver gone with my uncle Supra. He owns his own shop so its hooked up. Single T88 and everything. It was mad 181 at @ 2am in Florida on some highway b/c i couldnt read it. Personally I was scared sh1Tless, he laughed after I got out of the car and couldnt walk.Well thats my story.

145mph in my sr20det sentra. I would have considered going faster, but I still have the stock 12 year old suspension and t rated tires. It was also like 2am in the morning, no cars around except for one, and I had my friend in the car with me. It was partially down a hill but that was at the lower speeds. The speedo is known to be really accurate... there's a guy on sr20forum.com that did a test and at 130mph on the speedo (stock tire size), a friend's speed monitoring device (cop friend I guess) confirmed the same speed. It's not really a high speed car though, more like a fast box:doh: .

My car (96s14) must not have a limiter or the previous owner took it out or something but I know for a fact that I've hit at least 140 before climbing a long stretch slightly angled upwards in a very very short time. Before I knew it my speedo was hitting the reset button and it was bouncing off of it with about 500 rpms to red line. I just thought it was funny that not too many others hit speeds upwards past 120.

in my 300TT I can do 160-165 no problem in my 240 I can only get up to about 110 before it wont go any more. it doesnt hit the rev limmiter it just desides that its done accelerating. any thoughts to why this is. its an automatic. maybe thats why

The fastest ive ever been was about a buck-45 in my friend's wrx...which he totalled today. He got smoked by an old lady doing 50 mph while he was sitting at an intersection. My dad emailed me some pics of his good friend's son's car. His dad is on a campaign to end street racing here in louisiana even know the accident happened across seas(thats where he is originally from). I agree with that last post a lot people need to slow down, I know I have driven fast before, but the 240 has only been up to about 80. I bought my car to drift and you don't need to be going a zillion MPH to drift it. I also think a few of these stories are a little exagerated, but that is just my opinion. I just hate to see when kids are hurt and families are torn apart, and especially over dumb shit too! fastest as driver in my car was 143 in a nissan altima racing a 3rd gen maxima down 101 between SLO and Santa Barbara somewhere...scary thing was changing lanes at approx 130 to avoid a semi in my lane..lol...weird how a 93 altima is not governed while a 91 240sx is...sucks to only be able to go around 111-112 in my 240...

fastest driving any car was in my friends 98 M3..shit hit 140-150+ before i even knew what was happening....FAST as sh!t!!..he was selling it so he told me to "test" it out..:D..and those things will drift too!!..so much fun drifting with that kind of power...

150mph in my 2000 eclipse GT. Wasn't going to stop until I buried the needle. Which I did. I felt much better. I ws pretty scary at the same time. It's really hard to stop at those speeds.

Fastest I've been was in my Stang, speedo says 240km/h max, and it was far above, so I'm guessing 155-160mph. Still was pulling hard at around 3500rpm in 5th but I ran outta room. :(

90 mph in the s14 :D and only once...

Hell I havn't even floored my gas peddle for ages(mostly due to the sudden increase in power at 2700 rpms, that is accompanied by a HORRIBLE screaming noise, and the fear that all my hoses and pipes will fly off causing a horrendous engine fire)...

40 mph and 180 degrees is enough to satiate my need for speed. ;)
