synthetic would be the best for it, i only use mobile 1. you can also change it all the way at 10 thousand miles if your that confident. its up to you to decide what weight you want though.
there are no drawbacks in switching to synthetic in your engine at this point in time or basically any. i switched to mobile 1 0w-40 in my gti at 110k, have had 4 oil changes since at 10k intervals and have not had one problem related to anything oil related at all.

As stated above.

Mobil1

I recommend 15W40 but thats pretty climate specific. Comes in the bottle with the red cap.

the best oil is olive or corn oil :Owned:
J/K...lol..... Mobil 1 by far has to be prolly the best for the price on the market....really reduces the amount of wear and tear on your engine...

oil is oil

synthetic is usually not best specially for an older motor because it could be so thin that it may leak past the piston rings

wear and tear is pretty much gunna be the same if your doggin the shit out of your car with any type of oil

ive been usin the cheap shit and thats been working just fine - i just change every 3000km

EDIT:

now if your planning on a redtop racecar or somethign than def. go for the expensive shit

I used Mobil 15W50. But when i decided to go with this weight, I had figured out the car would be used in 100ºF weather heat on the track only(or mostly). All i know is once you go synthetic, dont go back to regular.

Figure if you're gonna spend money on an SR why not spend a little extra on oil?

I use Castrol GTX "DRIVE HARD!" 10-30 (the cheap stuff) w/ an oil cooler.

well thats not even true anymore, there are enough additives and the correct formula's so they will not leak. thats just when it first came out and the rumors stay around because if something fails on someone they cant trust it ever again even if it has been fixed. i'll probably be running 10w-30 in this good ol land of fl. by the way, if your a pimp motherfucker, you'll run ROYAL PURPLE

it's not true about going synthetic and not being able to go back to regular oil. just a myth.

stay away from 40 grade oils. Apparently, 40 grade is made from the bottom of the rung oil because of it's unique characteristic. GM engineers actually tell their mechanics to stay away from it.

Mobil 1, is by far the best bang for the buck. I've seen independent tests of various oils, and Mobil 1 came out on top every time.

I also have an Integra with 350k miles on it that burns very little oil, and still runs strong because all it's life it saw nothing but Mobil 1 synthetic.

Royal purple is actually better than Mobil 1, but at almost 10 dollars a quart, I'll stay with Mobil 1. The performance difference is nominal.

amsoil is a very good oil. I lived by it and let others know that I used it. But it was a hassle to get it around town because very few places had it and was also more expensive. I switched to mobil one and haven't looked back since, it is so easy to go into any automotive store and pick a bottle up for $5. If I needed more I can go to walmart in the middle of the night and not have to delay working on the car if it is late at night. Don't know, that is just me.

i had no idea about that with 40 weight oils. it was just what is recommended by vw to use(0w-40) so thats why i did. i'll have to research that a bit more. with royal purple at NAPA you can get it for 6.00-7.00 dollars a quart. that is unless i've lost my mind and just completly zoned out

i used to use 15w50 mobile one, heard synthetics are bad for older motors, destroys seals or something... so i changed back to 5w30. also change it every 3000km.

15w50 smells like poo

I use Redline 10w30. Before that my car only got Mobil 1 Super Syn 10w30. I like the Redline better cause it's a little thicker and quiets down the engine a little better and I'm changing it at 5k interval. I haven't been doing any racing or anything hard on the engine though so if I do I'd probably go back to 3k intervals. Oh, and Royal Purple is supposed to be the new Redline. :p Something about the guy that did the Redline oil going to Royal Purple.

Also, don't use wide temp. range oils like 10w40/15w50. Although they synthetics are better than the dino oils, they are still a little unstable because of the wide range of temperature they're supposed to cover. Just buy the range that you will be in and if it gets colder or hotter buy new oil accordingly.

Well if you are in an area that has High temps all day every day like me (Okinawa) I would use 15W 50 or 20W if you can get it. But I really beat the sh#t out of my car as well, SO MOBIL 1 15 or 20W 50 or if you can get your hands on it Omega is the best oil you can get IMHO.

I have used redline, mobil one, castrol-synthetics and of course countless other non synthetics. I use havoline 10-30 in my red top. The only thing synthetic has over convetional is that it does not brake down as easy. So all that means is you have to change your oil sooner. i used to run mobil one religously in a neon I own (I used to use a 100 shot on it)and it started to suffer from piston slap. i rebuilt it and after about 15 thousand miles on the newly built (eagle rods, JE pistons) the motor started getting the slap again. I am not saying the oil was the cause it just did not hurt or help. For the money I say Havoline 10-30. i actually change my oil every 1000-1500 miles. this may be excessive but I drive it very hard

The only thing synthetic has over convetional is that it does not brake down as easy.

That and it is more thermally stable. The cold pouring point of synthetic is MUCH lower than conventional oil. Try it. Take some conventional oil and synthetic and put it in the freezer for a little while then pour the two. The synthetic will pour like normal and the conventional will pour like syrup. Also, synthetic is supposed to be able to have a better film strength.
