i think initially i just wanted to say i have a turbo.

A Mitsubishi and Chrysler partnership called Diamond Star Motors built a car called the Talon/Eclipse/Laser from the late 80s to the late 90s. The top-of-the-line models featured AWD drivetrain and 2.0 Turbo engines (except the Laser which only had FWD). Aside from hp/tq, the specs were almost identical to the ST165 Celica All-trac.

Although the DSM cars aren't as 'exclusive' as the All-trac, they offer a much better value: 1000x the aftermarket, cheap, ez to find, lots of information, etc...

Shouldn't this be in off-topic?

Todd

ya. im aware of the dsm's... but all tracs sound cooler.

and it probably should be ot at this point.. i wanted a comparison of the two.. but its not really needed... mods are welcome to move it.

is your 240 stock or near it?

I dunno. If my S13 was near stock and I had the money I think I'd go for it. The all-trac is a pretty cool car. I mean just consider the rarity of the car. It may make it hard to get parts but I think it'd be worth it. It also depends on what you want to do. If your into auto-x I think it'd be a great car for the stock class (i don't know what its called) since it's turbo, awd..etc. But what do I know.

ya.. my cars stock.. either way im either buying another 240 or the all trac... so my car is on its way out.

im going to take the all trac for a drive tomorrow... that should make up my mind.

Why buy any other car? Take your 240 and put the money you would put into another 240,all-trac,dsm,whatever into that :rawk:

P.S. Don't buy that damned all-trac :ghey:

buy a car thats extremly difficult to find parts for, its fun, i swear. espicially parts that are complex and can fail under hard driving.

WOW, my friend Ray has that car. 1988.... Aspen white or something like that.... ALL-TRAC. Love that thing..... handles well... I think it's sexy. His has 84,000 miles, paid $5,000g's for it. My old Soccer coach works there, he hooked him up. Very nice car, if you get it, you will be satisfied. Until you take the dash off to change the radio... it's a BITCH!!!!! lol

AWD is the gayest thing you could get into aside from another guy's ass. If you want a turbocharged RWD japanese car get a Mitsu Starion.

You don't have to take the dash off the change the radio. Pull the center console and the front trim panel. 5 minutes.

But ya, they are cool cars but the axles can't stand any sort of abuse, and no one offers an upgrade for them.

dude go for it. AWD is awesome, i can't wait til i get through college and get a real job so i can get meself an STi :)
anyways, i'd love an alltrac myself, and if you do get it you must go take it rallying.

There was an all-trac in the august issue of modified mag. From what I read it sounds like they're a bitch to work on. I would stick with the 240.

My bother is selling a galant with a Evo3 motor. First 2600 takes it. It has 90k on it. It is bone stock, but dont be fooled. It dynoed 248whp and 236tq all stock, with just an exhaust, stock intake. The motor was one of the 5% made for the jdm vr4. It comes stock with 510cc injectors, big 16g turbo, big ass fmic, and oil cooler. That thing is fast as balls, and is still stock. My bro wants 2600$ for it, I think he is smoking somthing good, he should atleast ask 4 or 5k for it, but what ever. First 26. And this will stomp the shit out of that Celica.

AWD = more things to break = worse in the long run = more expensive = less money = :ghey:

i was always under the impression that..

4wd= full time 4wd
awd= part time 4wd

is there any truth to this?... i always thought that was the difference between the two.. maybe i just made it up?

i'm pretty sure its the other way around. two LSD's = AWD.

awd is basically full time 4wd High gear
4wd is mostly 2wd with high 4 and low 4 available, some are fulltime 4high with low available

Var

AWD is full time with variable power distribution capabilities. 4wd cars usually can be switched to 2wd, and when in 4wd the transfer case distibutes power evenly with no slippage to front and rear

*dont quote me boy i aint said shit*

Hey, if I were you and I wanted the all trac I would go for the all trac 185 1990-1993 if you can find it, that car can kick so much ass if you mod it right 3SGTE + AWD + Sleek body (with aero)
