I'm changing my oil for the first time after getting my 240. When checking in the fsm for the recommended oil viscosity, it says to replace the crush washer with every oil change...is this necessary? if so, where can i pick one up? I'm assuming my local NAPA or autozone?

only available at Nissan dealerships. pretty cheap, and really should be used. like 4 bucks for about 50

to get the old one off, you have to cut it with a pair of wire snips. If the previous owner didn't replace it, the old washer will be cooked onto the drain plug and will be a bitch to remove.

What i do to get it off is take a flat head screwdriver and pry it alittle then twist it off works fine for me that way.

at the dealership, I always used a pair of dykes (sp?) to cut them off of the drain plugs.

well...because of the fact i live 45 minutes away from the nearest nissan dealership, i just tourqued down the plug with the already used crush washer. I'll be keeping an eye out for leaks, but i think it will hole me over until my next oil change. thanks for the replies.

Never used one on any car. Never had a problem with leaks from the drain plug.
