I was gonna install iridium plugs, the one step colder than stock type on my redtop, but my friend who used to own an mr2 said that iridium plugs have the tendency to BLOW UP when it gets too hot and fuk up your cyclinder walls. He told me that on the old mr2 forum, they were all afraid of using it. Is this true? He's looking for the link the on the mr2 forum for me right now, but I doubt he'll find it because they recently switched to a new server. Let me know guys, thanks...

wow.... i'm on my 3rd set of IX plugs and no problems so far, except for the gratuitous cursing when breaking a tip while trying to gap them down for the weak stock KA ignition :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

There is some truth. DO NOT BUY DENSO IRIDIUMS! DO NOT BUY DENSO IRIDIUMS!
I've seen 3 motors have to be replaced because the ground strap snapped off, and cause carnage to valves, the piston, and most of all, the sidewall of the cylinder.

From my search of "Iridium Spark Plugs" on www.mr2oc.com. They have their list of MR2 Turbo DON'Ts, and here's their #6.
6. Iridium Spark Plugs - huge nono. Several MR2 owners (and other cars) have had these plugs break apart in the combusiton chamber casuing piston/valve damage..
There's also a couple of other ones saying how bad iridium plugs are. Here's a link to one of them, don't know if you can view or not. http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30743&highlight=iridium+spark+plugs .
There's also a couple of people vouching for iridium plugs as always. I'm just doing a little bit research and find out what's best for my car. Anyone here ever have any problems with sr running iridium spark plugs?
Also, there was one guy who stated that iridium plugs draw alot of power from the coilpacks, it will kill the coilpacks faster. True or not? let me know what you guys think.
Mr2 owners seem pretty knowledgable, so I can't really completely ignore their facts.

Plugs drawing power? Seems like less power at a more compact point will give the same effect, and the theory behind them.
As I said, Denso break apart and are piles of shit. SR sparkplugs = KA sparkplugs = NGK # BRK6E-IX for stock heat range on an sr.
I don't know what would make MR2 owners knowledgable over say, some honda owners, that ferrarri owner, or me.

how about NGK iridiums???
The link i posted above, it was a picture of NGK iridium plugs with the tip being bented (almost falling off) after 9 months of use by a previous owner. In iridium plugs defense, there was a decent amount of people vouching for iridium's performance and longevity. Some people also argued that sometimes its the owner's fault for using stock heat range when they turn up the boost and making way more power than the plug can handle. What I am most curious about is what about SRs? We seem to have alot of SRs running on iridium plugs (NGK?), anyone experienced any problems?

As I and Ace have said, we both use Iridium in our KA-T, and KA = SR plugs.
You're supposed to crank the heat range 1 step colder after some mods. Some say every 100hp. I'd put a bit more thought into it, because 100hp worth of intake/exhaust will be very different from 100hp nitrous or 8-10 pounds more boost.
