Hey Guys,

So I have a 1995 nissan 240 with an sr20det in it. It has run great for the last few years. I went to start it the other day and you can hear the fuel pump turn on but it does not crank at all. Any suggestion on where to start. It almost sounds like it thinks the clutch is not being pressed in but i checked the clutch switch and all seems good.

Thanks,

Gary

Start at the starter, maybe the blade connector came off.
Any other sounds like clicking or buzzing?

Did you turn the key?

Cotbu.

I can hear the fuel pump but thats it. no other noises. I know the battery is good as I used a charger on it and even ended up trying a new battery.

Did you check the connections on the starter, check the clutch switch and or the little grommet that actuates the switch. They tend to get brittle and fall apart.

I tried to bypass the clutch switch all together to make sure that was not the issue and I checked connections on the starter moter itself. So confused at this point.

I feel your pain. Im wear you are right now still. im about to get another new battery also. 500 cca seemed short so about to get a 700 or 800 cca. check the starter like he said, also grab a multimeter and check the ignition relay. mine came out bad.

Is 500 cca the recommended minimum for an SR20?

500CCA is way enough, as long as it is not false CCA like you can find on lifepo4 batteries.

One of the last cars I worked on had an issue just like yours. It was the starter, I pulled the starter off the trans, then ran a ground. Turned the key nothing. Tested the power, and trigger. 12v tested the solenoid intermittent. So I hooked back up and it cranked but it was not enough to start it, was like a dead battery. So I jumped it, cranked stronger, and fired up. But wouldn't start on its own.

So I just rebuilt the started with a refurbished unit from autozone. It cranks strong and fires every time now, I even got it to crank and fire with 10.9v down to 9v that's retarded!

BTW, I did clean the brushes but with the solenoid being bad I had to rebuild it, as it was intermittent at best.
