About tree fitty
If you don't have $20k, forget about that car. Realistically if he really wanted to sell it ( and not just selling it because he thinks he needs to), it would be a $15k car. but it's his dream car and he's going to hold it to a higher value than anyone else, unless that's someone else's dream car.
This situation, this car... if it has no rust and runs as good as the owner says. don't expect him to take less than $20k unless you want to start pulling parts off.

That's my thoughts too. I figured it might be worth 16.5, but I was also doubting he would take anything less than 20, maybe 19 but I'm not sure. I figure I'll show up with 18k cash and if he wants to make a deal then we can close.

people are getting sick of others asking how much a car is worth. I can give you 100 answers like the one above, but these cars are only worth what someone will pay. I may think that kouki is worth $15k. The next guy might not pay $10k for it. But to someone, it might be exactly what they envisioned as their dream car and they happily pay over $20k.
Asking what a car with a cult following is worth is an impossible question. It may be worth blue book to some, and be worth 4 times blue book to someone else.

If you let him keep the wheels, grille, $400 lip, the system, and maybe a few other easily removable, but not crucial items, you may be able to get him under 18k. Good luck with your purchase, don't tear it up if you do buy it.

I was going to say it's high, but then I saw an old lady owned it. Hop on it.

Dudes trying to get back the amount he put into the car, maybe a bit of a profit. Theres no way he paid that much for some of those parts listed.

Appraisal is tricky business. I'd suggest to those not familiar with the topic to simply avoid response but you are correct, there are a 100 different answers to define the value but the vast majority will be uneducated/unreasonable. When someone asks this question, they are really asking what acceptable resale value for the car is. Simply stated "What is a reasonable asking price for me to sell the vehicle at if I were to resell it?"
The general rule of thumb is if the work was done properly, is the kbb private party value of the car in fair condition + 1/2 the msrp value in parts. The parts mileage, depending on the parts, condition of the parts, maintenance history, title, condition of the paint etc etc are all elements that should be considered. If the car is rare then KBB can be a poor baseline or not provide a baseline at all. This is a rare car which makes it difficult for me to determine what reasonable value is. You guys know what this car would go for if it were all stock in good condition. Apply the same logic and we have an 80% accurate appraisal value. 80% is good enough and I figure if I'm a couple thousand off that's acceptable risk.
