k since i got my car well the second day i got it it's had a system.... i always ALWAYS keep the windows down...... now i was wondering how much of a difference in accelaration it would be in having the windows up as opposed to down all the time (im goin deaf so system has to go  ) i mean c'mon guys there has to be SOME drag from all the air rushing in

It probably wouldn't affect much below 85 or 90 mph or so.

makes sense

That's just a guess...but that's about the speed when functional spoilers/wings/aero parts start to have any real effect, and they use air drag to function.

Well, don't quote me on this, but over 'bout 50 or 60 MPH, the air conditioner is more energy efficient than windows down. So don't drag withem down!

Don't drag with the a/c on either.

Not drag from A/C, but I feel a pretty significant loss in power when the belt starts spinnin' that compressor

I'm repeat what you guys said: No racing with windows open, and no racing with AC working. It's fall already, though.... I'm sure it's not gonna be that difficult.

09-20-2001, 10:41 AM
i disagree. i'd rather have my windows down. better visibility and the windows won't break on you. i always have the windows down, even if its snowing

Windows won't break on you? Why would they..unless you crashed, then your just screwed anyway. When ever I'm about to race I always put the windows up for that little advantage. When you goto a dragway to race it's also mandatory that you have to but your windows up for safety.

09-20-2001, 12:01 PM
Yeah, what's that about your windows breaking? Never heard that in my life.... really!

Only person I know who had windows break on them was a friend who left it down about four inches and closed the door. . . Without the support of hitting the rubber seal on the roof, the thing shattered. Even that should never happen. Visibility is slightly more logical, but if yah keep the #### things clean it's not really a problem. 90% of your attention goes out the front windshield anyhow, and it's illegal to remove that on the street

I think it also saves gas to have the windows up. If you have the windows down, it's like your driving with a parachute. I keep my windows down around town, but on the freeway I put em up.

It makes sense... kind of .

i've had my windows break on me when i got t-boned. that wasn't fun. thats why i always drive with the windows down. the glass breaks into supposedly safe pieces, but theyre not safe when theyre flying into you.

gas mileage difference is negligible. so is speed. i bet it would be a difference of 1/100 of a second and 0.01 mpg. if you're so worried about aerodynamics then you should shave your doorhandles, remove your emblems, take off your wipers, etc.

and while you may be looking forward when you race, the cops come off the side streets, and your mirrors are on the side too.

I think we may be taking it overboard?!

09-21-2001, 10:49 AM
but its not overboard that your windows MUST be up when racing? how often do you hit 160 kph in a race?

09-21-2001, 11:05 AM
I meant with the whole "take off all your decals and mirrors, and whatnot". Windows play a bigger role than a Nissan emblem, I think.

you can bring whoever you want, but just to let you know, i worked as a bouncer thru university...

you can fight my gf. probably about the same size as you. btw, i love sneaking in the window....

09-21-2001, 07:31 PM
Maybe, I'm pretty small for a European chick. But, no, I've never had a boy climb up a window for me . I kind of live in an apartment complex.
