View Full Version : Yay another running rich thread

So i have an S13 SR20DET, fresh rebuild, and in trouble shooting i have new Z32 MAF(car was already wired with Z32), FP, FPR, CTS, and TPS...So it's still running rich and has a rough idle, i sprayed down the piping and dont see any leaks, no VAC leaks either since it's all new line (no boost gauge yet to verify). Once it gets out of the idle range the thing responds great, no problems at all but it's the idle that's killing me. Everything is spec'ing out so the only thing i've come up with is a thread that said i can only run a Z32 MAF if my ECU is tuned and/or has an SAFC...well the car DID have an SAFC before i bought it, that's why i ended up getting the MAF because it wasn't reading it right, wouldn't read the new MAF either and that's when i found out the MAF signal wire at the ECU was cut, once i spliced it the car would run okay but still bad/rough idle. With MAF unplugged it will jump up the idle and run fine, no black smoke but it's in the bad MAF map so won't rev past 2k...I'd be really interested to see if anyone can verify that i indeed am screwed using this Z32 MAF without tuned ECU or SAFC.

Bah nevermind, just found the supporting thread, sorry.

What really sucks is i don't even know if the ECU is stock or already has a tune on it...golly the guy that had it before me was a piece of S***

That's not really an excuse for not knowing if the ecu has a tune on it.
Not knowing what a tuned ecu looks like is your fault. Maybe it's a haltech or power fc? A stock ecu, would probably have a daughter board. Look inside still can't confirm, Google or post in the small questions or identify threads.

Also if you can still communicate with the previous owner, ask him/her questions.

No, the guy i bought it from barely knew anything about the car so i'm not sure what went on, which is why i'm not surprised i wasn't told that it was a SR20DE-T and not a DET, and a bunch of other stuff. But i've since opened up the ECU and looks like a stock DE ECU so i'm not running the car anymore until i get a wideband to see what the AFR looks like...but like in my ECU thread...i thought it's supposed to bog or some crap like that when i boost it on a stock N/A ecu...not run like a champ at everything except idle (due to MAF).

I don't recommend tuning like this but, some people are able to run a larger mafs, with larger injectors and it's almost good enough to drive. This isn't a tune and should only be used to drive to a tuner. My friend did this with his ka, n60 mafs and 550cc or 720cc injectors can't remember but he didn't want me to tune it for him. So, not even a month later blown. He did beat the crap out of it, though.

lol at least parts aren't too hard to find. And i'm not planning on tuning it myself, the UEGO will be a permanent addition to the interior, but it will answer the question nagging away in my head of what the reading is until i get it tuned, plan on just tossing the ECU anyways and going with an EMS so the car's going to sit for a little longer.....wife is NOT going to be happy when i tell her lol

I can break it to your wife for you, I have this opening called the shocker!
Not responsible for anything after the shocker though!
