View Full Version : Steam Cleaning Engine Bay - Safe Or Not?

i am planning to have my engine/engine bay professionally steam cleaned. i just want to know if there is anything bad about steam cleaning the engine and engine bay? is there things that can go wrong? please put your input.

It's safe, as long as you cover up your distributor with a plastic bag(or something that would prevent water from going inside). You may also experience water going inside of your sparkplug valley, so you may want to be carefull spraying water around the top of the valve cover. But if you have access to compressed air, then once you're done with washing down your engine bay, blow air inside of your spark plug valleys.

I just did mine last week, and not until two days later my car started hesitating. MIL came on spitting out misfire cyl#2, so yeah found water in it.. then it turned off in two days.

thanks ritz s14 for the input. i'll cover the entire valve cover gasket and distributor. this is what made me think if steam cleaning is good or not. all the electrical systems, especially the ignition system can go wrong if there is a way to let moisture in.
