"Code 55 indicates NO malfunction in the self-diagnostic circuits." - From ALLDATA
Just clear it.
If you need instructions on how, LMK, Alldata knows that too. :D

Erasing Diagnostic Codes:
1. Turn the ignition key on.
2. Turn the diagnostic mode selector on the ECU fully clockwise and wait more than two seconds than turn the selector fully counterclockwise. The ECCS system is now in mode 2.
3. Turn the diagnostic mode selector on the ECU fully clockwise and wait more than two seconds than turn the selector fully counterclockwise. The ECCS system is now in mode 1.
ECUmemory is now erased.

figured i post it here instead of PM, so people can search for it ;)
BTW whis is for the DOHC S13s. if you got something different LMK

It means you had an issue, and some sensor sent that data to the ECU.
Next time the ECU checked, the same problem was not apparent, so it "forgot" the code.
The CEL wold have reset after a few "driving cycles", which can be just starting and driving the car, or driving @ cruising speen for a certain amount of time, etc...many things are defined by the ECU as driving cycles.
But you checked the ECU for codes before it turned it's own light off, and since there were no error codes stored, it gave you the 55.
Forget it ever happened, like the ECU did.
Many times these are EVAP codes, caused by stuff like a loose gas cap...so it's no big deal. If it becomes a problem again, the CEL will come back on.

so i had a CEL from the rear o2 not bein hooked up, so i pulled the bulb to pass inspection. i just tried scanning the ecu for code, but the red led in the ecu didnt light up. does the CEL in the gauge cluster have to be in for this to work?
