i modified this post from it original version so that it wouldnt be so wordy. front main seal was obviously blown. oil flew off the crank pulley and went everywhere. even up the garage wall. i replaced the seal with one from napa. i asked for one from a 93 nissan sentra se-r. this is supposed to be the same sr20 block. napa guy asked me if it was 1.6 or 2 liter i said 2, i imagine this is the sr20 if its 2 liter. this should be the right seal but after putting it back together it still leaks. i took the pulley off again siliconed the outside edge of the seal just in case that was the prob. still leaks. how far is the seal supposed to be tapped in? is it possible i have the wrong seal? what else could be wrong?

im guessing yo have the wrong seal.. they are not the same blocks.. there are alot of parts that will interchange with them.. but they are not hte same...

ill pry order up a new seal from heavythrottle or somethin and try that. this is agrivating. this car should be on the road by now. i have had my radiator on and off like 4 times now trying to fix that stupid leak. cuz you cant get the pulley off with it in...im getting to wherei can have the radiator, belts and front pulley off in like 10 min...anyone else want to confirm rather or not the seals are the same or not. the one i took out looked different then the one i put in but i figured that it was just the fact that it was napa. and on top of that the old one was spitting oil all over so it nothing real good to compare to.

front cover is fixed when it comes to the gashes that were obviously caused by a bent pulley running on the motor long enough to wear a groove through the front cover. i just used epoxy...so my leak HAS to be coming from the main seal.

replace the front cover, there are always people parting out sr20's in the for sale section here and at nico, if it has holes in it it is trash.
take your old parts in when you go to pick up the new ones, if possible. that way you can eyeball them and find out if they are the same. I have an extra front seal for a ka24de on the odd chance that they would be the same, you can have for free if you want. I got one in my gasket/seal kit, and another in my timing chain kit.

i would replace the front cover as a last resort since i know it involves alot of work. if i can get away with fixing somethin simple and solving the problem that would be alot nicer then removing the oil pans, the valve cover, the cam sprockets then the front cover and then sealing it all back up properly and hoping that i did a good enough job sealing the stuff i took off. unless removing the front cover is easier then that, jeff at heavy throtle told me the cam sprockets would have to come off to get the bolts that were holding it in on the top i figure the oil pans have to come off since there appears to be bolts holding it there from the bottom. but then again, in jeff's own words "ive only taken the front cover off once im not an expert at this" so maybe its simple. plus its 240 bucks for a new one from enjuku.
