My friend has a 1992 Nissan Maxima. Now, everytime she turns on the A/C it acts up. It seems that the direction she wants the cold air to blow through it's all hot air.
(ex: When set to blow through both top and bottom vents [a/c] it all blows hot)
The only exception of this is when she sets the a/c to blow through the top vents...cold air blows through the lower vents! Weird ass shizit. But, all other settings on the climate control follow the above trend. :hyper:
I was supposing it could be needing an a/c recharge, bad condensor, or the engine is overheating (heat blowing through vents). I didn't do a visual inspection, she just told me over the phone.
Any ideas?

i used to have a 91 maxima se a few years back, and i had similar problems. the heater/ac controls got pretty erratic sometimes. it would rarely go in the right vents unless you put it on level 4. nissan said it was just that control unit, and that a new one would fix the problem. i really didnt care enough to fix it though, but it did seem like the problem was with the silders on that control unit. maybe grab one out of a junker and see if its any better?

0kami: Leave ur dumbass remarks in OT, not in tech.
Skatanic28: So, it's basically the control unit? If so imma hit the Jyard for a replacement.
I was screwin around with her center console, installing a head unit. Did I screw it up doing that or is this a manufacturer's defect on the unit?

if it happened right after you put a head unit in, i would make sure you wired everything right and nothing is out of place.
im not sure if the control unit is at fault for sure, but thats what it was on my car. i wouldnt spend a lot of money on one, but if you can grab it out of a junker thats one more thing you know is ok.
btw....does her center clock still work? another big problem for the 3rd gen's.

She said the center clock is ok. I'm gunna have a look at it later today to check the wiring behind the unit. If I come to any conclusions I'll post again. Thanks...

Skatanic: Would you happen to know what refigerant the 89-94 Maxima uses? Is it R-12 or R-134?
