1995 240SX questions

Hey everyone, long time browser, but just recently bought my first 240! Right now, my dad and I are in the process of installing energy suspension rear subframe, differential, and front tension rod bushings, as well as rear brake pads/rotors. I've been reading about the notorious problems with our lovely fuel tanks, so my question is: does anyone have a s14 with over a 100k miles that hasn't had the tank crack? I looked at the tank near the straps, and I didn't see anything, but I read that even if it's not viewable, the stress fracture is beginning to form, so I'm just wondering if I should delay putting the car back together so I can either take out the current one and get it sprayed with bed-liner or just purchase a new one and do the same.

Any input is appreciated!!

There are plenty of cars on the road with well over 100k and still have the factory tank. I think this issue is more common in areas with huge temperature swings(desert) than anything else.

In the event that I needed a new tank, ideally I would like to find one somewhere I could drive to and pick up to avoid shipping. I live in the metro Detroit area--are there any recommendations for such a place, if it exists?

thanks for the reply! I checked all the part searches i could, and was able to find some used, but it seems pointless to buy a used tank if it'll most likely have the same wear as my current one (potentially) does. I should probably stop getting too far ahead of myself, since I'm unsure of the true condition of mine, but I thought it would be wise to see what my options are. At this point, I'm probably just going to order one from FRsport or Courtesy Nissan as soon as I can gather the funds.

I would encourage anyone to buy new if they are replacing the fuel tank. But Also, having heard that later model S14's don't have this issue, I'd probably be looking into using their hardware instead...

That's interesting simmode. Ill have to look into that. Im assuming by later models youre exclusively referring to kouki's?

^^^Based on another recent thread on this issue, it seems that only 95's are afflicted with this issue. Apparently, it was fixed for 96 & forward. Not really sure if climate has anything to do with it as someone previously mentioned, but I guess that's plausible.

I Daily drove my S14 (95) since April 2005 up to December 2012 when it was stolen from me, it had a little over 154,000 miles, never had a problem with the gas tank.

well mine would be grouped with the suffering! I live in michigan, and the car has spent its life here. the guy i bought it off of had just purchased it from the second owner a few weeks prior, and he has owned it since 98. The car sat for a while, which im really hoping means the tank isnt as bad as it couldve been. its a 95 blue emerald SE btw. could you post a link to the thread you just mentioned? theres a parts place out by my dads work that gas a 96 tank for $150, and based on what you said, this might be a viable option.

WOW Jaded, that is terrible to hear about your car. It is a little reassuring to know that your tank held up. Out of curiosity, what took the place of your S14?

I found this not to be entirely true. Over the years I read threads on here as well as other forums with people having the exact same leak on the 96+ tanks.

This is an easy diy fix. Mine cracked about 2 years ago near the front of the tank. I jacked up the front of the car so that the gas collected in the back of the tank. Then sand the area around the crack and JB weld the shit out of it. Haven't had a problem since. Might be kinda ghetto but it works...

1995 with 203,000 miles and climbing.
Never had a problem with the tank, and to be honest I hadn't even heard of this problem before.

^same. I just rolled over 272k last week in my 95. No problems at all with the tank. Not yet at least.
