The LT8s itself is tiny. about the size of a cd case and about as tall as four cases. built in MAP sensor (good bye MAFS! woot)

hmm... not this is NOT one of those 'I got something new' thread I'll poo on, simply for the fact that my brother from another mother Steeles is probably the first person to attempt an install of one of these on a 240 (if not the first, certainly one of a handful, and I'm SURE he'll do a photo-pictorial writeup on his install!)

07-30-2004, 10:51 AM
harrrr! yeah i'll do a full write up just for you mrfleas :) Should be intresting. the overall install dosent look that hard. its the tuning it thats giving me the heebie jeebies. dont wanna blow anything up.
there was a coupe.. built by the folks I ordered my microtech from that runs one in Modified magazine a couple mmonths ago. BTW everyone check out Central Florida Turbo :) good guys easy to do business with. had to poke um a bit for updates but that was also me being impatient lol.

Kev - just read your post about the new parts thing in the other thread over in Tech. in retrospect this post probably should have gone on my old updates of my car thread. but I was too lazy to go back and find that old thing :D

Very cool! Are you gonna have someone tune it for you? It'll probably be kind of hard to find anyone that knows anything about microtech within a few hundred miles.
I'm gonna HAVE to drive that thing one of these days. :naughty: :D

yeah thats the hard part chimp. but I figure if they know standalones they can get it done. luckily the base map is supposed to be a good starting point with them. no setting base idle and such. should fire when its wired up. then fine tune from there. i wanna look at the software a little and ask some questions and see what I can learn and do on my own. then I'll find someone to take a look at it. I met a local BMW guy running a TEC on his boosted 5series I may hunt down and pick his brain.

oh and we'll talk about test drives lol. I at least gotta make sure nothings gonna blow up :)

How are you going to blow anything up running a wideband? Don't worry about it mang. Just dump in a chit load of fuel and head to the dyno. Then once WOT is tuned, do some street tuning for driveability and response.

Haha I know right. I think Im gonna dump the factory O2 completely. the Microtech will ignore it if its not there. I wanna see if I can wire in a cheap wideband sensor later after Im done with yours.
I've definately got more fuel than I'll ever need. its the timing and stuff Im leary of. I'm probably gonna pull up Enthalpy's thread on FA about timing and follow that. I got a couple more questions and such. for example I have NO clue what my base boost level is set at. so how to factor in inital tunes for that. other than dump a bunch of fuel in and see :)

 Very nice. Can't wait to see it running. If you take it to a dyno post some numbers.

oh it'll definately see some dyno time here soon. too much has changed NOT to go see what she'll do up there.

Hey, if you need help with your Microtech, you should head over to NICO and search for fito. He's using the Microtech to run a modded 587rwhp RB25DET with lots of success and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to answer your questions.

Friggin Females. my friend was having issues last night and demanded attention. :jerkit: freakin pulling me away from my work. :rl: anyway I came back when I was done with her and got the wiring straightened out. just gotta wire the relay for the fuel pump and do the power and ground and the microtech wiring is finished. just gotta mount the sucker and run some vacum lines. I may have to move the HKS EVC solenoid. evidently its supposed to be mounted vertically. that may require a little work. gotta mount the nipples into the block off plate and get the cold pipe plugged. three more days to work on it. I'm planning to crank it thurs. do or die.
anyway someone asked for pics of the SSA exhaust mani and HKS style outlet elbow so here they are. took brand new ones cause I couldnt find the old ones.

How was clearance and everything with that outlet? Did you have to beat the shit out of it to fit it?
Car looks great, nice choice with the Microtech =)

nope no banging or nothing like that. had to trim a bolt hole for the factory catch can for the #4 runner but that was it. good fit good stuff
are you gonna use a wideband system? the stock 02 sensor is still good for a rough rich/lean estimate if you have a guage.
Steeles
08-03-2004, 11:06 AM
got a wideband on loan from grandpa :) I my or may not hook a O2 in there at some point. after I get it tuned. we'll see. I dont have a guage but he display will show what its reading as a just in case feature but it only takes a narrowband

I'm back and happy to report that after 6 months sitting in the shop WE fired up my car last night!! yay!! Super big thanks to RDM 1 Russ for ALL his help the Heyden kids (SleepySR and his bro) for time tools and everything else, Sway500 for his help over the weekend, Grandpa for the use of his wideband (which i still gotta calibrate ) and all the shops I got parts from, Justin at Upspeed.com, Robert as ALWAYS from Projectsilvia.com who has been great since our first dealing back in what 2002? The crew at Phase2 for working with me, Central Florida Turbo for getting me the Microtech, Kyle Benent, and i probably forgot a bunch but you know who you are you know what you did so Thanks again!!
so she barely idles and is running crazy rich right now and is gonna need some major tuning on the standalone before she hits the road again but she actually looks like a car again instead of a warehouse of parts. so Im taking any and all standalone pointers I can find!

Microtech LT8s standalone EFI
BNR Supercars turbo (T25 stuffed with a 16g compressor 12 blad clipped exhaust wheel)

Greddy intake manifold
PE 850cc injectors
SSA HKS style turbo outlet elbow
Projectsilvia downpipe (now with o2 sensor bung)
test pipe
Yashio Factory super silent II exhaust
Techedge 1.5 Wideband
HKS EVC EZ II boost controller
Dell laptop (vin Dieselesque mean mug provided courtesy of me)

hahah oh it did but when parts get shipped on the slow boat there isnt much choice. then things are messed up and that causes more delays and then you gotta find money for new parts to replace what was screwed up and everyones out of stock and blah blah blah. I went weekes without touching it cause there was nothing to do. it was horrible

hahaha yeah shipping from japan sucks. it took my wheels 3 months to get to the states. well it would have took two but they sent the wrong ones. and it seeems like everything you want is out of stock but everything else is. good luck man. in the meantime, i'll just check out PGs site again
