I bought a kouki about a month ago. its a base model with base 4 lug wheels. it never vibrated or anything. I got a good friend of mine to do a 5 lug conversion while i was at work. He did the job and put my used work vs-ss wheels on that he used to own. Now my car is shaking pretty hard at 60. zero shaking at 55. and feels like the wheels about to fall off at 67. I know i need to get an alignment but i dont think its 100% the problem. tire psi is even at 40. they were balanced when he owned them. they never shook on his car at that speed when i rode with him. Sorry if a noob question. Just wanted to ask here before i took it to a shop. I dont like shops working on my car. heres a picture of it. needs more low.

Your front tension rod bushings may be worn out. 15" or 16" wheels have enough tire sidewall meat to hide the issues. 18" wheels have little tire sidewall so any tension rod issues will become very noticeable.

This is what a worn (destroyed) front tension rod bushing looks like.

It's the kouki front. Swap to Zenki.

Absurd. It's because he owns a Nissan. Sell the S14 to someone that, you know, knows things.

Did you go with used 5 lug? Could be any number of things. . .

-front hub not tight enough
-bad wheel bearings
-loose hardware

I think it even trickles down to the basic stuff, wheel balance is off, regardless of if they were balanced when your friend owned them, if they have been sitting for a long time it might be worth it to get the balance checked.

Tension rod, front subframe bolts, tie rod, wheel balance, rack, ball joints.

Check in that order

Jack up front corner of one side of the car try to move the wheel on the air up down left right there should not be movement if there is replace sloppy parts. Outer tie rod ends are a big culprit. Repeat on the other side. Balance the wheels also

Ya wheels go out of balance quickly...an alignment wouldn't be a bad idea either

+1 on wheel balance. I had a horrible shake at 65 and then it went away at 70. It felt like my wheels were going to fall off. I had the tires rebalanced and it all went away.

If a shake only happens at a certain speed, it is a part that's rotating. Unless your tie/toe/camber/camberplates/tension rods are ridiculously loose or worn out, they will not cause a heavy vibration like you're describing.

Examples would be: Tire balance, bent wheel, excessive play in wheel bearing, driveshaft u-joints going bad or out of balance shaft (vibration in seat, low speeds)

Since your friend just installed 5 lug on your car but the wheels didn't shake on his, I would check your wheel bearings for play and look over any bolts not tight including axle and front hub. If all is good try to borrow another set of 5 lug wheels and see if it goes away. When you go to rebalance the new wheels, tell them you want to know how bad they are out before removing the current weights.

i had this exact problem, it ended up being the Rack bushings. my car is a very low mileage car as well.

As mention check Tension Rods and Wheel bearings first. Both easy, I have the same issue and both of mine need replacement.

So you let a friend do work that led to an issue, but you don't like shops working on your car? Come on, man.

I checked all the above. Mine was tension rods. Replaced bushings and problem solved.

Had the same problem on my Zenki even after balancing my wheels. Had to replace tie rods, tension rods, and ball joints, and it went away like butter. Tension rods can be a big culprit if it shakes past 60 and doesn't stop. Just check for sloppiness and fix the sloppiness, another alignment and wheel balance can't hurt you either.

Get a wheel alignment first i would say, since u need one no matter what. I guess you can also look for any worn bushings before that since u will need alignment if u do replace any arms

That awesome two-tone mustang in the back though lol. How has no one mentioned it?

Had this issue. It was tire wear. Swapped insides to outside and smooth as can be. I have also experienced the rack bushings...tension rod bushings...and tie rod ends cause this phenomenon.

Lol, I had the same issue. Changed the front tires, and it was all good.

I would also say the wheels need to be rebalanced or it's the tension control rods.
