wastegate controls the amount of boost your turbo makes. blowoff valve releases the pressure between the turbo and throttlebody when the throttleplate closses. you need both

some turbos have an internal wastegate so you may need to block off the port depending on what turbo you get

the wastegate and turbo are going to bolt on the manifold, however some turbos have internal wastgates, the BOV goes on the intercooler piping and release air, the wastegate controls your level of boost.....

great posts by all.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you don't know how a turbocharging system works, you shouldn't be attempting a DIY setup.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. PLEASE.

And if you ever get a wastegate Tial's are very nice. There is also a lot of info on here about turbocharging as well. Check out Halo's "Crazy Idea" thread too.

Ditto. 'Max Boost' is a great book and will answer all your questions. It will give you enough formulas and math (and explainations on the #s) to calculate everything properly; it will teach you how to select turbos, and should clear quite a few things up for you. Highly reccomended.

Check out Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes too. U can get it in combo with Maximum Boost.
"Turbochargers" goes more in depth with trims, install, ignition, etc. etc.
If you're no mechanic - definetly don't go in like a headless duck. You might be getting in over ur head. Understand the basics (through reading material), and then dive in with the best of your ability.
I first screwed around w/ a 7MGTE I got from an MA70 that was at my j-yard. Screwed around for a while...now it's second nature...now i just need more tools. :duh:
Oh yea, about the wastegate.
I installed a Tial 38MM on my buddy's 4G63 :rl: . But, it works great and looks BLINGITY BLANG! :bigok: I have pix if u wanna see the wastegate...
38MM MAN! It's HUGE!
