so all these sizes are confusing, but i pretty much got the gist of what it all means. anyway, i would still like some experienced advice on turbo sizing. about 250-300 max whp is all i will ever be hoping for so i obviously want a small super quick spooling turbo. i was looking at a t3/t04e 50 trim compressor and .48 a/r turbine housing. flows 588 cfm. think that will be enough and when should it reach full boost? i even thought about a t25 or t28 but dont i have to get a special flange on my manifold to fit that? im more concerned with quick spool up. i need advice on manifolds too, i need something that has an EGR port, i dont want to plug that tube, ghetto fab. I know the equal length Import auto performance has one, any others i should know about, because I havent found any others.

get a big t28, sounds like what your looking for, for that 250-350 rwhp

big t28, what size would that be though, like specifically.

DISCO POTATO with a .61 trim maybe

your not asking for much power, a garrett gt28rs would seem to get you exactly what you want. you dont even need to switch manifolds if its on an sr20det

KA24 or SR20DET?

a T25 will be to small for your 2,4 liters stroke. Your thought about the T3 for about 300whp will the best way for a good response.

If you're going for T3 or T4 compressor... get T3 .63 turbine A/R... Its always good to avoid exhaust choking at higher rpm.
I like how my T3 super 60 performs. fairly quick spool (7 psi @ 2700rpm) and gives a good pull until higher in the rpm.
But everybody is saying that T3/04 57 trim, .63 A/R turbine is the most efficient turbo for KA. Although from the dyno sheet I've seen... It seems to get full boost above 3grand.
Its all up to you though.. If you're looking for power and dont care about the low end power... T3/04 seems to be a good choice...
But if you want something thats more responsive.. T3 should be good. If you want an even more quicker spool, T25/28 will give you what you need. If you want both (fast spooling and high end power), get some ball bearing turbo.. GT30r or something :)

That's not exactly true... Bling (http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=67733495&Forum=CatSearch-3&Words=aceinhole&Match=Username&Searchpage=2&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=67733495&Search=true#Post67733495)
Just think what a S15 T28 or a BigT28 would do...

That's a really nice result - as I understand they were talking about HP @ flywheel - then he is far away from 300whp with T25 - I would not fit a T25 on a 2,4 liter engine.
Years ago I used a GTI-R T28 (exhaust a/r 0,86) with my CA18DET engine: we reached about 320whp with 1,8l - response and spoolup should be 1000 times better with KA24 than with the CA18DET.

No, that dyno for Ace was at the wheels.

I read that he uses a T25 Turbo from a SR20DET engine. Normally SR20DET engines are equipped with a T25G Turbo with A/R 0,8 on comp. housing. I think his Ka24 runs with a T25G. Another weird point are the 370cc injectors and fuel quality ... but this is all off topic ... I don't wanna discuss his results in this thread.

ok i was thinking of using a straight t3 and then i talked to marc at import autoperformance about their kit. he said their t3/t4 hybrid is an exception and is made specially for them by turbo innovations inc...he said that their stage one car with only runs 6.5 psi boost, make 5 psi boost at only 1800 rpm! he said its superlight and 360 thrust bearings, so you think that is possible? their kit seems pretty sweet too, i was thinking it may be better than peicing my own together now...what you guys think?

nope all s-chassis sr20 t25s' had .60 a/r comp. housings. that is what ace is running.
I'm going to be running a GTiR turbo on my KA in the next couple months. I'm hoping for pretty much what you are. 300whp and quick spool up.(knocks on wood)
The GTiR has the larger .86 ar exhaust housing so it shouldn't choke the top end like Ace's turbo sort of does, but should still spool fast with the t28 exhaust housing.

I imported my SR20DET with gearbox from a 1992 S13 Silvia with about 5000km (3100miles) and there was a T25G (A/R 0,8) on it. So I thought that he reached with this kind of turbo such high power output.
Reg. GTI-R T28: I also used this turbo on my SR20DET for a short time. at 3000rpm we had 14,7psi (1bar) measured in the intake manifold. We never were on rolling road with SR20DET in combination with GTI-R T28. So quick spool up should be guaranteed with 2,4l. Power output depends on your environment: Intercooler, Exhaust, setup (fueling, ignition), comp. ratio, ....

50 Trim is the way to go...not 57. Bigger islands on the map...more efficient at almost every point, on a KA.
I chose the 57 b/c I was impatient. The 50 was back ordered, and I wanted to finsh my KA-T...but I'll switch to a 50 or some GT at some point.
And it does get full boost right around 3k. I now get 12psi by ~3200...but it's making positive manifold pressure starting at ~2800 or so.

so can anyone else vouche for this guy. its a direct bolt on replacement? i dont need to replace the manifold? is this true?

o yea and also. if i get a S15 turbo, do i need to get the S15 manifold too? or is it direct bolt on replacement?

Not direct bolt on, but it bolts to the stock manifold...like the T25, T28, GT2540, etc...all bolt to stock S13 and S14 SR manifolds, but will need minor changes made like possibly oil lines, water lines, intake pipe, etc...

Are you guys seriously getting 14psi by 3500rpm on a T28? I takes me at least 4500 :( ....
