im confused. ive had my car for maybe 3 months and its been runnning perfectly. its a 1989 240sx coupe with 150k miles... still running very strong with original ka. the weird thing is, i was on the highway and my rpms were gettin kinda high, so me being a cheapass, thot i wud save gas if i jus put the car in neutral and let it cruise down the highway. right when puttin it into neutral, a little bit of white smoke was coming out of my shift boot. so i popped it back into 5th and it stopped. when i put it back into neutral, the same white smoke appeared... im 100% sure im not rubbing my clutch, thers jus white smoke whenever i put it into neutral going fast. it tends to stop when i put it back into gear. anyone know wtf is going on? :wtf:

Pull the shift boot cover off & inspect the rubber boot that goes over the shifter. It probably has a small tear in it allowing exhaust fumes or other type fumes into the passenger cabin. Pop the hood on your car & check the valve cover gasket around the rear firewall. You might have a small amount of oil leaking from the valve cover gasket that is dripping down around the tranny well / exhaust piping causing the white smoke to appear when you let the car cruise in neutral. If it's not a small oil leak, then check for an exhaust leak around the manifold & catalytic converter.
Anyhow, hope this helps..
