I bought my complete shell with coilovers, exhaust, trans, full interior, battery relocate, RUCAS, Wheels. All for $400.
Not sure if it helps but I wouldnt spend that much on an SOHC shell unless it was flawless and no rust or anything.

I bought my daily hatch shell in the exact same condition (100% stock only missing the motor, even came with the trans) for $300 so the price does seem a bit steep to me. That was a few years ago and prices have gone up a bit. Also you're in cali so a lot more factors go into the price of a vehicle and getting it back on the road then other states. I would personally never pay that much for a shell though if you want my :2c: Wait for some cali people to chime in, they will know the pricing in your area better.

I was thinking under 1000 but I doubt he'll go lower since the Cali drift tax is rape, it was the tranny too just no motor he said it was a bad ka24de and was going to swap it just never had time

Considering the drift tax nowadays I think it's not bad..if it has a clean title, decent body and interior then id pick it up.try offering him 1100$ cash and then do a sr20 swap and you have have a clean s13 for a couple grand

Actually doesn't seem terrible for only missing the motor. Does it still have the harness and ecu? The only thing is, finding a KA then deciding to stick sohc or going dual...Dual is obviously going to cost more.

He said it's complete just missing the motor so I'm guessing it has the harness and ecu
