So i installed an isis ps line on my s14 sr20de in a s13 chassis. the install was straight forward and i used dexron 3 atf for ps fluid. i ran the steering wheel side to side for a bit both with the car on and off but i noticed that the pump sounds a bit louder now? Has anyone else had this issue or may i still have air in the system of a messed up pump. any input would be appreciated. thanks

You bleed it with the motor on or the pump spinning via impact gun with a socket. The pump will suck up all the ATF it wants from the reservoir after turning the wheel back and fourth (with the wheels up in the air) about 10 times. If you can hear a power steering pump you have damn good hearing, or your pump is completely shot. Never heard a power steering pump in my entire life, even in rear engine cars with it sitting 5 inches behind my head.

in that thread, someone states that they used dexron IV and it made the pump whine and after flushing it and using regular atf its was fine. seems strange.

Dextron II is what you want

Most likely the pump is dying. IIRC several people that have replaced old soft expanded lines with tight new hose and had their pump blow shortly after. It's most likely a 100k mile pump and now you're cramming more pressure against old seals.

I replaced the ATF I had in mine with Redline PS fluid and no more whine...

I changed out my high pressure OE line that was leaking to a Touge Factory braided line... plus swapped my PS Fluid to ATF Fluid, I now have that obnoxious whine noise. Its been 6-7 months since I swapped the line and my pump is yet to blow. It leaks a little bit, but its an almost 20 year old pump so yeah, its expected.
Im thinking about draining the ATF and going back to PS fluid to see if it helps at all... but thats only gonna happen when Ive got NOTHING to do lol

It is very obnoxious lol. i want to drain it and use something different but i dont want to be bouncing back and forth through fluids for nothing. that whine is annoying though.
