I have a S13 and when I bought the vechicle the drivers side door has a broken key stuck in the lock. I was thinking about trying a strong magnet to try to get it out. Has anyone had this happen? Any suggestions on getting this out? Thanks!

I had the same problem. I just took it to a local lock & key shop and they got it out for me for $12. Just call up some places and tell them you need an extraction. You shouldn't have to take the lock out.

Luckily I could pull it out with my fingers when key snapped in the frozen lock awhile back. It was my only key, a locksmith made a new one out of the two pieces. Waay cheaper than the bastards at the local stealership would even make a 2nd copy key!

man i had it bad.. when if first got my car.. it had keys broke in both drivers and passageners side locks,, and they screwed up the face of it.. You had to unlock the door with just the tip of a house key to turn the lock 15degrees... haha.. luckily i survived thru highschool (got it my senior year).. then i sourced someone parting an s13 out on the forums and had em ship me the lock cylinders for like 20bucks or something.. then i had a locksmith match em to my keys...

i can get a key into my s13 drivers side door, but it wont turn to lock/unlock it. i still dont know what the hells wrong with it. but i havent really looked into getting it fixed yet either....i might try to do some type of keyless entry instead of unlocking the passenger side door and reaching over to mine. it sucks when i take a girl out, i get the "oh thank you " for unlocking their door, but then i have to say yeah, um you have to unlock my door for me because my sides fucked up, or hope they just reach over and unlock it on their own (yeah right).

Broken Key Extractor Kit.....
http://www.keymart.com/key_extractor_kit.htm

OR you can try a paper clip and a pair of needle nose pliers. Bend the tip of the paper clip downward /upward in a "L" shape. Use the clip and needle nose pliers to "fish" the broken key out. Before you start though, get a can of WD40 and spray liberally into the key cylinder. The WD40 should help in sliding the broken key out.

anyhow, hope this helps...

Pop the driver side door panel off & check the entire latch mechanism. The outer rod that connects the driver side door lock is probably jammed to the locking mechanism inside the door.. If your car was ever "slim-jimmed" in the past, (cus either you or the previous owner locked the keys in the car), it's possible they could have popped or "jammed" the connecting rod from the door lock cylinder to the latch mechanism. That explains why the door lock doesnt work. It's an easy part to take apart, clean & fix. Just make sure you have some sort of bicycle chain silicone spray lube handy when you do. The spray does a good job of cleaning out the debris inside the lock.
Anyhow, hope this helps.
