Got busted with a MIP

Hey all, Me and a couple of buddies went down to San Marcos to hang out and party on the river. Well we are floating on the river just drinking a beer and relaxing (as al of the other underage drinkers are) and we get busted by the local cops for MIP. We both got tickets. Now im not trying to get out of this because I know I was breaking the law and I have to accept the concequences, but I just wanted to know if any of yall has had this experience and what kind of punishment to expect. And also I got this ticket about 3 hours away from where I live ans was wondering if I have to go back for court or if I can arrange to do it locally. Thanks all in advance for any help, and please no flames.

P.S. I guess the cops were too busy handing out MIPs that they missed the group of people that lighting up the fatties about 50 yards from where we were. Good stuff

What are MIPs?
Are they like alcohol citations?

Check your local laws and find out what the punishment is for a mip. Or take the lazy way and just ask a lawyer. They will normally tell you what you are in for even if you don't hire them. (But don't tell him that you're not hiring him lol)

In CA mips get their driver liscense pulled for awhile, I'm not sure how long it is. There is also a fine of some kind.

Sometimes you have to do community service. I think it all depends on the judge. You might be able to get your court appearance relocated.

My friend recieved an underage drinking violation and he lost his liscense for 30 days I think it was maybe 90 I don't remember exactly and he was fined $250 ish. It isn't going to be a cakewalk I don't think. I am in Wisconsin i'm sure the law is different here.

i know someone in California wasn't drinking, just holding a bag of beers. he was crossin the street, got arrested and they suspneded his license till he was 21.

MIC is minor in consumption, pretty much the same thing except that you have no chance of fighting it and I believe the punishment is a little worse. So you guys are sure that I will be able to go to court locally and not have to drive 3 hours? Thanks for all the help guys.

:down: Uhh ok.........my brother got one about 5 years ago and he paid out the ass. About 5 grand when it was over. Probation, community service, and random screening and it was just a tidley alcohol offense. Chances are you might get a slap on the wrist but make sure you have your check book in hand.

that sucks bro u got an mip. ive never gotten a mip, but my friends who did have just gotten slap on the wrists. a judge kinda gets tired of seein kids (def. when they come in by the dozen). i always leave the party just before the cops show up. me n ma copdar 8-)

Thats some bullshit if you get your liscense suspended even though you aren't driving. Why should your driving priveledges be revoked when it has nothing to do with the offense. My friend got an mip and it got dropped, only cause he had a DUI and 4 other charges. But his DUI didn't get dropped, the rest did. He had a damn good lawyer tho.
