hi. i just finished converting my auto to manual but when i tried to test drive it problems starting arising. when i started the car the car was in reverse. i shifted throughout all the gears and the car doesn't move at all!! when i start it the car is in reverse and reverse gear works right. i kinda noticed something was fishy when the car was still on stands and i started it and revved it and the speedometer jumped. that must mean the car is in reverse but even when its not moving?

anyways. im kinda pissed right now. what kinda problems would it be? a few things popped into my head. i know the problem has got to be the tranny, since the ecu/wiring can't control what gear its in. i narrowed it down to to things.

first, the junkyard could have sold me a messed up tranny but thats odd for a tranny to be that messed up. 2nd, i didn't put the spring and ball bearing into the tranny since i lost them. maybe the tranny can't shift into the right gear without the ball bearing and spring? i hope this is the problem so i dont have to replace the whole tranny.

what other possiblities could there be for this messed up problem?

When you say spring and ball bearing, do you mean the T/O bearing? If you just didn't put one, that's gonna be a big problem right there.

Couple things.

One, you Need that ball bearing and spring.

That is the Throwout bearing and retention clip.

Additionally, did you pull out the Automatic Bushing that was in the back of your crankshaft? And then press in a new pilot bushing?

no. im not talking about the throw out bearing. im actually talking about the spring and little metal ball bearing that goes into the hole where the shifter plate goes. i heard that ball and spring is used to add pressure to the shifter or something but it didn't seem important. im not sure what it does, but it seems like my tranny can't get in gear. i tried starting the car again today and neutral, 5th, and reverse seems put the car in reverse while 1, 2, 3, 4 is another weird story. the car stalls in 1, 2, 3, 4 but it doesn't move at all. so does that mean the car is in gear but doesn't move b/c i know its not possible to stall if the car is in neutral, only in gear.

If you are talking about the round retainer and the round washer/spring thing in the shifter hole, YES you do need those or it won't shift right. And if that is not the problem maybe it's a bent shift fork.
