I've decided to go with a Suburban for my towing needs. I got a dealer who is a customer at our smog shop who is trying to sell me one he has in his lot. It's a 98 GMC Suburban with 120K miles on it. It belongs to his son in law. It is pretty much a basic interior, no frills. Cloth seats, manual windows..etc. But it's a 4x4 and it has a vortech 5.7L engine. It has a tow package.

He gave me a price out the door for $10,000. This includes an additional 100,000 mile powertrain warranty and includes tax and registration for the next year. I figured the warranty would be pretty cool since i will use it for towing in hot weather from time to time. What do you guys think of this price..and remember i live in the Peninsula(Bay Area, Ca) one of the most expensive places to live and everything costs more here.

For that price, I guess that ain't so bad.

If you are just looking for a truck to tow. Then I would look for 97-98 Chevy Dualey 350. They cost around 10K-12K.

Thats used to be my old tow bitch but I decided to upgrade to Suburban which was a mistake. m still happy with Suburban cause I have a family now.

Y suburban, get the smaller tahoe, easier to park gas milage, towing same. 4x4 will eat more gas, unless you plan on useng the 4x4. haha
as for 100k warranty that is verygood, what are suburbans going for used? that should be how u base it. You also want to keep him useing ur smog shop though too.

I like the dually idea...i mean turbo deseil and everything like that...sounds like banks performance and some upgraded turbos/intercooler you'd be...oh wait nevermind...

Desiel = more torque better for towing.. :eek3d: (and large burnouts )

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Don't even think ABOUT getting a TAHOE.

Wait until you try it. Its too small. They are not that stable at highspeed.

Well..it would be nice to be able to use it for family camping trips and such..but my POS 240 is pretty heavy. Your little go-kart hardly weighs anything. How do you think the suburban would do towing a car that weighs 700 pounds more? I bet a dualey would haul better..but not practical for daily use.

The same guy is selling a Ford F-350 with the bed converted to a hydraulic action bed(converted to a flatbed pretty much) that tilts back and you can put your car straight on it. He wants like 10-12k for it. I would love this but again...you cant really show up to places driving a tow truck...hehe

Its still heavy for my truck even tho my "go kart" don't weight that much.

Going up on Grapevine or HWY 152 is a bitch.

I say get it. If its clean and nice.

I don't like the look of those old SUB. Too boxy. But it does have a 5.7L. Mine is only 5.3

you should have posted this a lone time ago because there was a auction where a two car trailer was going for 3 bills almost perfect inside and out with a power door....wax weight was 5900 per axle there where 4 axle's do the math.......
