So there is very few 240s in my area and I have never had the pleasure to feel what the shift knob throw feels like on the 5-speed that comes with the ka24de.
I am looking to acquire the parts to do the 5-speed swap and have read the ka being a "truck motor" (says the haters) has a "truck transmission" and therefore has a notchy binding feel between gears on the shift knobs throw. Every truck I have driven has a notchy AF and binding feel to the stick and I HATE it. You are almost unable to drive it hard and quickly slam between gears.
I think alot of the bad rep is from KA haters who are bias so I ask:
Is the 240sx 5-speed notchy and bindy or does it feel smooth enough and race-able in its stock or lightly modded form?
I would almost rather throw in an rb25 or vq35 transmission if they are truck like.

You're over thinking it, it feels fine. Occasionally the higher mileage ones will be a little loosey goosey from worn shifter bushing but that's about it. Where in VA are you? I know of quite a few groups of 240 guys all across the state.

Your local so I'll be nice. A KA trans shifts like any other passenger car trans. In fact SR, KA, and RB20 all use the same transmission (other then a slightly different 5th gear ratio and of course different bellhousings). You obviously haven't done much research on the subject, the truck motor = truck transmission comparison is just plain stupid..,

That's near Richmond right? There is a decent amount of 240 people out that way. Check out MA240sx.net, its the local 240sx forum a great way to connect with people in the area.

Yeah I PM'd Spectre some more info. I'm curious if I've ever met you Rustys14 haha, I've been around for the last few years but was going to school at VT. Now I'm in Richmond area.
I want to setup a Richmond area BBQ event similar to MA240's. I always want to drive up for that but it was during finals for me in previous years.

Hahaha, I'm from nova but I just graduated from Radford last year so I wouldn't be surprised if I've bumped into you before. I had the gold s14 in my sig and then a blue hatch while I was down there.
Are you going to 100 drifters this Sunday? A lot of the MA people will likely be there, should be a good time.

Oh cool, yeah I'm going up but unfortunately not driving. Hah! How did I not see you, I graduated last spring as well. Did you buy the blue hatch from a guy in Blacksburg? I might have known the PO.

Nah, I picked it up as a shell from some guy in Woodbridge after my s14 got totaled and swapped everything over, I know which car your talking about though haha. I'm driving this weekend so feel free to stop by if you want to go for a ride on the track. I'll be in the purple coupe on eurolines.
