i like your car... i dont think it is ricy... i dont think the white fire is ricy (but others might debate)
but your car looks fine... it doesnt have any weird ass thing does it? like a 10 inch spoiler? or an invader body kit (sorry to the ppl who has it but it is too extreme)

Your car isn't that ricey (i would get rid of the tribal flames if it was my car, but it isn't ). I saw a red Civic today that had a huge double wing spoiler, rims, the car was'nt lowered so he looked like he was ready for off roading, the huge muffler that sounded like a swarm of angry bees and still had the "DX" symbol on the back, that is rice, i'll take a pic of it tomarrow. I wish I could line up next to him so i can laugh and then burn em.

hey my 240, are oyur calipers painted?? just curious, it would look mad cool if they were white. just so you could match somewhat. there is one car that I've seen that I think is just ridiculous. get this, a guy has an Acura Integra, 92 I think. and the paint is a real nice yellow. just perfect. well his front wheels are the stock hubcaps, ya know 13's or 14's whatever they come stock. then the back rims are literally a neon green 17's I think. of course he has the Altezza's!!! but I mean i'ts just a ridiculous car.

we r here to help each other from becoming ricy

I don't know if thats really rice, it's not like the neon on the underside of outside of the car why do people do that? Is it supposed to make it look like it floats? Who would mistake it for a floating car? Oh look honey it's one of those floating cars..... Oh yeah now i remember, if you realize that your black lights in your car are "ricey" that makes em less ricey, because a real ricer does'nt understand why someone would point and laugh at there car

Uh. . . side from that, I think there's some rice still spilled on the floor in the back from dinner last week, but that's Mexican style rice.

I saw a real tasteless 240 ricer. This guy had a white 91-94 with cut springs, HKS, APEX, GREDDY, Spearco, MOMO, Stillen and JWT decals starting at the drivers side door, extending to the rear wheel, and the same on the other side.
But I loved the 2 final touches he mounted gauge pods with no gauges in them (just empty watch faces), and a 12" supra spoiler on top of his stock spoiler. Yeah, bolted to our foam spoiler.

Hehehe, yum, get that boi some Teriyaki sauce and dig in!! I give that stock spoiler two more months of life.
I didn't mention it in my last post, but there is a greenish yellow 240sx wandering around Reno with funky exhaust and the all out body kit. Didn't see much beyond that, caught my attention as it drove past at a light. I know they are out to grab attention with alla that shit, but I for one am not feeling a need for the "What a freaking dumbass" kind of attention.

The original meaning of rice, as well as I can trace it, is advertising something you don't have. This has mainly to do with stickers, but an exhaust tip w/o the catback could be considered advertising an exhaust system you don't have. Anything else (large non-functional wings, clear tail lights, wild body kits, wild graphics) is simply distasteful...and since taste varies, it's not universal like "rice". My car is by no means ricey because I have no stickers at all and I have a full cat-back behind the exhaust tip....but some may find the large tip distasteful...see how that works?

People making those "rice" sites just have too much spare time on their hands. They probably don't like seeing cars being tuned/modified... Instead of showing us how NOT to do it, they should show us how it SHOULD BE DONE. Criticism should be constructive and not just aimed at putting down people. After all a modified car is an extension of the owner's character and to each his/her own...

Yeah ofcourse, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But to which criteria do cars have to answer, in order to be rice? I think everyone has different criteria for calling cars "rice". Who sets the standard? My car is very stock apart from a few mods, in my eyes it's not rice, but it might be and probably IS RICE according to some other people.
I'm not saying that I like rice. Don't get me wrong, but as long as they aren't hurting anyone, I don't care... And as for those RICE sites, well they may be funny, but think of the owners of the rice cars which are featured on the site...
Anyway, don't pay any attention to my post... I've got wayyyyyyyyyyy too much sparetime... I should probably make a rice site myself

hmmmh.. i have found a special order bodykit, from my friends dad who owns a restyling shop here in CT
Im going to make my car look almost identical minus the decals to this car(but the paint scheme is going to be blue and white)
http://www.zilvia.net/images/gallery/s14-1.jpg
would that be considered ricey? or just plain out nasty street/autocross racer?
with the same rims and everything, i although have a better pic, but i cant link it to you guys, so you cant see the rims(of the same car which i have posted the link about)

I think that wide body would look pretty good...especially if you were going for something different. I'd stick with a single color paint scheme, though. Two-tones look tacky in my opinion. If you do all that, though, put some grunt in the car so it's not all show and no go...I'm talkin 350+ turbocharge hp. In my book, if you're gonna look wild, you gotta perform wild.

Back to the paint color, that alone has nothing to do with rice (unless it's two or three or eight toned, y'know what I mean ), but the fact that he's coupling it with Type R badges makes it pretty lame and 100% rice.
As for the racing 240sx, it depends on what you do to the car. If you paint it, it needs the widebody kit. Though, I'd say you'd better back it up under the hood

i'm gonna be brutally honest here. our cars will never look as good as a new vette. and it will never turn as many heads. i had a 2000 vette for a week in cali, and a z3 for a second week, and my car doesnt get half as many looks (even though its way better than the z3). Its not just about being fast. Expensive cars come with killer interiors. The vette is just amazing. Youre just wrapped in leather, the seating position is perfect. Sitting in it made my 240 feel like a civic hatchback.

There's a banana yellow Kia with a 3 ft. wing here on campus (no joke, the thing is higher than the top of the rear window). It's got chrome hubcaps, too.
There's also a yellow and purple '92 Civic DX with a big wing and the rear brake DRUMS are painted purple. No performance mods whatsoever than I can see...even has the stock 1.5" pipe sticking out the rear, not even a tip. I swear I'm one of the fastest 4 cyl. on campus. I did see a girl driving around in an MR-2 Turbo the other night, though...but that's f/i so it doesn't count.

What we are getting at is the type of attention ricer cars get. It's not the "wow, that dood is clever" attention. Ever. It's always "dood, wtf is that guy on?" I bought my car to look like a 240sx, and to drive like one (or better ). That's the difference, we aren't out to turn heads with funky decals and insane bodykits. Turn heads by making the car fast, not making it look fast. Mark West and PSI240's cars are excellent examples. Riceyness has nothing to do with the car, it's about the owner.
Then again, as you say, everybody has their own tastes. What you are seeing in this thread is the popular belief on the forum. We bought 240sx's to be different. If we wanted to rice out our cars, we'd be driving Hondas. I mean, ####, 20 hp per sticker, NO Nissan on the road can beat that!!

Do I consider the cars on F&F ricey? yes. Those graphics on those cars where designed to be put in a movie. They are over done for the movie and for lack of a better word "gaudy". I hope you did'nt think that all imports are like the one's in that movie. To be a cool import you don't need some huge decal on the side of the car or a spoiler that scraps the top of drive threws. Just make a nice clean ride that goe's fast. What is that saying "Talk softly but carry a big stick". If you want attention go buy a Van (like the one tony danza drive's in Who's the Boss) Well take the van and put all the stickers on it and spray paint it whatever color u want.

I came from Hong Kong, so I don't really understand your slangs that well yet, and I don't completely understand what "rice" is. You guys probably think I am stupid, but it's ok. Does it mean stuff that look good but not help the car run fast? If so, I don't think they are that bad, because I saw people in Hong Kong who hooked up their car too much (performance wise) and they had nothing else to do afterwards, and they start putting on hoods, body kits, (but no one there does stickers, because they all think it's really stupid), lights, (oh, no one uses clear tail lights or altezza either, because that's stupid also), but I don't think they are that bad, because when you can't do anything more performance else, you should make it look good, don't you agree?
Skyline GTR
10-06-2001, 08:53 PM
forgot to say, when they do the lights, they do the JDM lights if they have it, because even though Hong Kong has the cars they got in Japan, the tail lights are sometimes different in colors.

10-06-2001, 08:56 PM
hey, but they're doing performance first. i wouldn't put nething 2 extreme on my car, but if they got the power to back it up, then that's their decision. u should check out the first page of this topic cuz it has a check list of stuff that make ur car ricey, it's pretty funny.

Yeah, I even mentioned earlier that a sticker for a company who made a part you actually have doesn't count as 'rice'. A card that has been ricerafied is something that was decked out to look fast but wasn't at all. Essentially, a lie. The classic example is the little type-r racing emblem stuck on the back of an escort station wagon or something.
Speaking of Type-R, the company I work for sells wireless modems. Before the Ricochet network went dead, they offered the highest speed wireless connection you could find at 128k/sec. It rocked. Anyway, we sold a Merlin card for the CDPD network for a long time, but started offering a Merlin Type-R card for that other network. I totally that was the coolest name for it because I thought they meant "It's like a regular Merlin, but it goes really fast". No, turns out the R was short for 'Ricochet' and no one knew what I was talking about. So disapointing.

i actually kind of like cars w/ stickers on the side windows or side of cars if it's not overdone, it really does give it that unique japanese touch. a lot of cars in japan actually did that n their cars were in no way overdone at all. there were a lot of fast jap cars there though so it wasn't like a bold statement or nething cuz everybody knew what u had under the hood. since the cars were cheap, so many ppl had like silvia k's, 180sx's, skyline gts-t's, pulsar gti-r's, evo's, wrx's, celica's, hachi's, whatever u know. all the cars there were the jap cars (u might c an old or new american car every once in a while) so u wouldn't really notice much difference in the nicer sport cars since so many were modified, which i find to be a very rare here in the states, except for the honda ppl of course, which i don't get half the time. i actually never heard the term "rice" until i came to the states, i guess a lot of ppl in the US don't exactly appreciate the imports as most of us do. hehe, i actually don't know what the point of this piece was, i guess i read something in here n had to type this.

Im new to this forum, but I just couldnt help but respond to this thread.
Here are a few that I've seen that bugged me. First of all, a while ago I saw a girl in a Fox body style mustang. I had ground effects, a 5.0 badge, and a cobra snake badge (above the 5.0 badge). The thing is, this car did NOT have a V-8. I could tell by the single exhaust and the sound of the exhaust. Secondly, and probably the worst ricer Ive ever seen was a nastly yellow geo storm, with a foot high wing on the back, and stock everything. This thing looked like a yellow lawnmower. Ive seen sick looking early 90's metallic blue cavalier Z24 with a huge chrome tailpipe and UNPAINTED white ground effects and cowl hood. My friend has a 95 civic 2 door, with a 1.8ltr GSR motor in it....and he put an acura badge on the hood (but it looks cool), and full chamelion paint. The last terrible thing Ive seen was a ford ranger with a huge chrome exhaust that made it sound rediculous. I like the idea of a disposeable "rice-cam", I might have to try that myself.

The worst, I mean the worst ricey thing I've ever seen, you'd have to see yourself to believe.
Someone in NYC had affixed a 'Grand Cherokee' label right off of a Jeep on the liftgate off their Volvo Station wagon. See, guys, riceyness isn't limited to just sports cars or imports.
(A friend took a pic of the above - if she ever gives it to me, I'll post it)
