Well I haven't really posted about my turbo project, but it is finally done. The car ran pretty good, it is running on three cylinders, but will fix that tomorrow. The setup is ka24de with a t-3 super 60 with 5.88psi spring. Man the car is totally different now and scared the hell out of me, but I like it. I like to thank some people who really helped me out; Bbandit- damn, we drove everywhere and went to lowes about 30 times and gave me rides to school when the car was down, I love you man. Mikespeed95 for doing my piping and letting me borrow his tools, Mojave for helping with injector wiring and some small stuff, and whoever else who helped me with advice or lend me tools. Here are some pics of the setup and process:

the manifold is the etdracing manifold that was on a group by a couple of months ago. I don't know if you have seen Bbandit's setup, but it is pretty much identical. The intercooler is from forge intercooler that I purchased through jgycustoms at the time, when I was getting research on the intercooler I discovered it was an extruded-tube core and rated at 350 hp.

The piping on the hot side is 2 inch and then for the rest of the cold side it was 2.5" and the hotside was 2.5".

hey bandit its been a while now how is the manifold? holding up?
and any other outputs about it?
did you guys have to change any studs to put that manifold on?

Bbandit

The manifold is holding up pretty good.
I've driven mine hard (about 3-4 events this past 2.5 months).
I even got to the points where I made the manifold and the turbine glow red numerous times.
oh and keep this in mind, I didnt reweld the etdmanifold. I just used it straight from the box with those unpenetrated welds.

So far, I'm liking it. no clearance issues, no overheating issues (yet).

As for the studs, you dont need to change them with shorter ones. stock studs work pretty good.
Just remember to get a copper exhaust manifold gasket (mr. gasket has em).
I noticed that if you put stock oem paper gasket, the gasket will burn and the the manifold flange will warp a bit.

Are you guys still using stock bottom ends. What head mods, if any do you have? Any ideas on HP numbers? I am going to be doing either a SR swap, or building the KA. I like the idea of having 2.5L(bored) motor to spool a big turbo.

Looks great guys. Nice work.

Bbandit

we're using stock unopenned KAs. just like most of the ka-t guys out there.
Im guessing that I have low 200s rwhp @7psi.
Fastpace on the other hand, will try to boost 12psi since he has the fuel for that kind of boost.

3k? daaamn dude, nice work tho

Bbandit
07-18-2004, 02:36 PM
yep 3K, but that setup will last him a while. 550cc can get him up into the low 300s with the right tuning.

Whereas I spent around 2K and my injectors will max out at 250rwhp :(

YOU STOLE MY WIRES!!:D:D:D:D:D:D!

Nice! Wish I had the physical ability to enjoy such aproject with a nice ending:)

WTF are you using for your air intake pipe(to air filter)?

love the KATs, hate the upper radiator hoses.

Bbandit
07-18-2004, 06:22 PM
LOL yea funny that you're the first one to notice that.
The pipe is actually a 90 degrees bent rubber tube. commonly used for plumbing. he bought it at LOWE's.
and see that red stuff under it? thats RTV red to hold the radiator hose thats hooked up to his bov (for recirculation).
Thats not final, he's working on a real intake pipe (using his left over 3 inch steel pipings).

As for the intake filter, thats a 5 dollar filter. originally, its open on both ends. He cut a circle shaped aluminum sheet and glue it to on of the filter's end using RTV red. :)
Ghetto, but it works.

I'd kill for a ghetto KA-T over my N/A but I can't pay somebody to do the custom work nor can I hack it myself :(

KA-T=teh hotness IMO

same here man, but the stock radiator hose wont fit anymore lol.
So we have to settle with this. :)

Dont worry, ka-t is a never ending project. The setup will just get better, quicker, and cleaner.

Update: Fastpace's car is way faster than mine. It gets to the point where its scary. He called me just now saying that 240_keyy has installed his boost gauge. and guess how much boost hes running...

1 freakin bar. thats equal to 14-15psi. no wonder his car pulls like a mofo. 240_keyy was like, "holy shit man what the hell is this... 1 bar! it pulls like an LS1!!!" (I made up that LS1 part so yea you get the idea)
and this is without a boost controller. So I'm guessing his wastegate spring is a 1 bar spring. He's going to get a softer spring though. 15psi+stock KA+extensive autocrosses = bad.

hey all, thanks for the responses. yeah, the car is to fast, I am still scared of it. In 5th gear my speedometer was moving faster than the tac, freakin unbelieveable. That is the reason why it spooled at 3k and held really well. Oh well, time to get the proper spring. Oh man, I am so corrupted right now.

Oh yeah here is a pic of ghetto recirculation tube:

oh hell yeah, we've been working on 240s since '02.
Its a pretty small community here in college station. But the good thing about that is we know each other pretty good.
So far, college station has 3 SRs, 1 CA, and 2 KA-Ts, all 6 of em are s13s. 1 RB25 soon(s14), and hopefully more ka-ts in the future. :)

KA-t is for the LAME

The drift motor is where it's at fo'shizzle fo' real.

Oh what radiator hose is that? Looks like you pulled it off a vacuum cleaner. My radiator hose is kinked hardcore, and something like that looks like the solution. What exactly is it for in plumbing?

Clean your engine bay. It's nasty in there. Simple Green in a spray bottle and a rag son. Take out all those confusing lines. It will make fixing your soon to be broken KA-t easier (this is not an insult, its just that my shit always needs a little tweaking and a clean bay helps).

Congrats and welcome to the club! :)

just go to o-reillys or advance autoparts and ask for "universal flexible radiator hose" :)
