I've been pulled over by two dumbass cops in the past month, but luckily I've gotten away with no citations both times. First time was last month, I was on my way home from go karting on the north side. I was on 465 which has a speedlimit of 55 but the usual speed of traffic is around 75. (I've been passed by cops when I was doing 80 though). I was in a pack of around 10-15 cars and we were all doing around 70. I am in the middle lane and I see headlights get right on my ass and then I see the flashers, so I'm like wtf is this guy pulling me over for. I pull over, liscense and registration, blah, blah, blah, then he asks me why he pulled me over, and I told him, other than traveling at 70mph with the rest of traffic, I have no idea. He then said yes, I was speeding. I then told him that in Driver's Ed I was told to drive the same speed as everyone else to be safe. He said ok, but told me to slow it down and that he won't cite me this time.. I don't know how that worked haha.

Second time happened today when I was coming home from my friend's house near Newport, KY. I had just crossed the river into Cincy and I missed my freeway exit because some jackass wouldn't let me into the lane that I needed to go in. Anyway, I ended up going east on a highway I needed to go west on. I hadn't even gotten up to speed yet (60 in a 65) and I see a cop on my ass with his lights on. So, I'm like wtf and I pull over. He wastes no time getting out of his car and marches up to my window and asks why I was being pulled over. I told him I didn't know because I signaled my lane change and wasn't speeding. He told me that my gauges and my exhaust were illegal in this state. Keep in mind I'm still in Ohio... I then told him, well as far as I know it's not illegal in my state and that I've never caught any slack from it. He then asks, "Well, you're from OH aren't you?!?" I say, "No, I'm from Indiana, didn't you even look at my plate?" There's a pause, and then he says, "Oh, well where are you going." I tell him I'm gonig back to Indianapolis and that I got on the wrong highway. He just tells me to be careful and he gets back into his car. WTF. What a dumbass, he was too anxious to pull me over for exhaust that he didn't even look at my plates. Wow, for a minute there I thought I was in California.

I believe Cali's driver manual says you need to go the speed limit even if traffic is going faster. Once all traffic is going over speed limit then the cops can pull over anyone they want. Cops will just let you know that although everyone was speeding you're just the one that got caught. Other than that if they don't feel like pulling people over they have another tactic where they slow down all the traffic by swerving across all the lanes on the highway until everyone is going the limit.

I like the one that happenned in NY about a year ago. An Evo got pulled over and fined for having an excessively large wing. Now, the kicker is the fact that it was the stock wing! Even more insane is that it held up in court!

haha a MR2 friend of mine told me a storey about 2 years ago he said there was a mr2 speeing to a car meet, and a cop was following him so he gas'd it, he lost the cop and went to the meet
then the cop pulls up to the meet and looks at the MR2 puts his hand on the hood said says "You got lucky", and leaves

For you people who don't understand, the spair tire is in the hood of a MR2

thelinja-What does your car look like? Proble an s13/s14 with wheels, and exhaust right? Maybe lowered ? All the other cars in the group stock? Cops will target kids/younger people in hot/sports cars/modded cars. Everybody complements my car on being pretty,I've been asked what year my 'vette is,I've been asked "hey I thought chevy made the 'vette not nissan *points to nissan symbal* ?" ....etc

Either way in VA cops never pull people when they are in a group, they can't pick someone out,if they did it would be thrown out of court.

I'm not sure what other cars were around me, it was dark, and all I could see were head/taillights. My car is black with HKS exhaust and black wheels, and it looks lower than stock because of my sideskirts.

I would call this a case of an owner with a lot of money for a new car and not near enough common sense to just BRING THE FUCKIN brochure to the thin to court to show that the wing he was cited for was a factory installed unit that he had no opportunity to opt out of.

They never do that here in NC either, they usually wait until a group of people are sitting still, even if they are well within their rights. Imagine 5 friends leaving a restaurant, all parked together, all modded cars, right near the "strip" where every asshole in a given city goes to "cruise." These people go to this restaurant all the time and have clearance from the owner to hang out in his parking lot as long as they keep the music down, don't litter and at least buy SOMETHING every once in a while. Owner comes outside to call off any cop that gives these kids shit. This particular night, one then starts up to leave and this particularly overzealous rookie cop will not let anyone leave this parking lot until someone has gotten a ticket, no matter what the shop owner says. Before this is all over, 3 tresspassing tickets were given, all dismissed following discussion between the DA and the shop owner and one exhaust ticket given, which amounts to about NOTHING in NC... Shit, we get speeding tickets reduced to the equivalent of an exhaust ticket here.

No, the guy actually proved that the wing was stock, but the court decided that, just because it was stock, it didn't mean it was legal. A car could have blue taillights stock, but that wouldn't be legal either.

Yes but then A car manufacturer needs to make a model that will be legal in the state. Like cali has carb model cars. in theory then the car company is selling an illegal product, kind of like crack, you cant sell crack, well legally anyway.

Yep. To be sold in every state,it has to be fully certified in every state; I've seen ads where there is a disclaimer that certain things are only available in 48 or so states; Howsumever NOT being the case of the stock wing on the EVO. I would bring all the paperwork and try to bring a salesman/mitsu rep. to court with me,thats ridiculous. Fucking insane. I would NOT put up with that shit whatsoever. I would start a petition if they still didn't rule in my favor...

In which case he will turn and successfully sue mitsubishi motors for selling a car that was not road legal for a state in which they chose to sell the model...

He wouldn't get any money; Mitsubishi is going under and needs bailing out yet AGAIN....This time their bigger brother banking company IIRC is giving them more than a BILLION to save them, and make up a new image (yes another one) for them. They are also shutting down factories to save $$

He wouldn't get any money; Mitsubishi is bankrupt and needs bailing out yet AGAIN.
You go bankrupt:
The bank (or whichever debtors your bankruptcy lawyers settle up with) takes on all of your outstanding debt and pays it, puts you on a plan to pay it back and legally blocks you from taking on any NEW debt for a period of time, usually no longer than like 7 years... In the meantime, all valid lawsuits and shit will be paid... It'd be in his best interest to start this action NOW, before they even go into bankrupt status.
