Hell yeah I'd be pissed. Half the reason I'd buy an S14 clip is because it's a newer engine. Unless they could guarantee the S13 trans was from a low mileage blacktop, that's inexcusable.

Cause clips ship with all sorts of weird shit done to them. How many people in the US drive S14's with S13 transmissions?
I'd guess more than a handful. So its possible that the clip shipped with an S13 tranny. The shop got it in, installed what came, and thats how it goes. they are USED engines. You don't know what clutch, internals, turbo, anything, is going to come or what kind of shape its in. Personally I'd be pissed if I was one of those people that bought a clip that came with a twin disc or 3 puck unsprung hub clutch. Cause you know that shit was driven hard and put up wet.
Anyway, buying used parts is always a gamble. If you want an S14 transmission (are they even different? who is to say yours isn't off a later S13 that could be in better shape than the one your theoretical s14 clip came with) then you are gonna have to find one.
I guess.
Anyway its a sad story.

transmission arent one of those things i would get nitpicky about cause they put up with a fair amount of abuse, and they are fairly easy to source through junkyards for about 100 bucks. If it shifts smoothly i would not care if it came off a KA.

personally i wouldnt care as long as it shifts nice, cuz you dont know if the tranny has been rebuilt or not, or if there was a bad tranny in the s14, so the shop gave you a good s13 tranny, what would make you more upset, a bad tranny, or an older tranny that works?

Well, that depends. If you pay for part number XXXX and it comes broken, and an equivilent works and is in good shape, then are you getting more for you money if you insist on the broken part, or "settle" for a working substitution?

just call the shop and ask them why they did that. then based on that, decide if you should be upset or not
