coincidently while i was posting this, i was reading jaja's post about trouble installing new seats. i just bought a new pair (red suede & vinyl) there's a pic of them below, they look, imo pretty nice, and i have a recently repainted red 89 coupe so theyll match ya know, and they are really comfortable. oh, and sykikchimp if you read this, im 6'2", 34-36 waist, 210 lbs, and i fit right in. lumbar support sits right where it should, and feel awesome, so i mean there's another opinion from someone who has em. here they are

anyways, i bought mine with the recaro sliders, and i have a pair of wedge engineering brackets for the 240sx sitting around. so i just wanted to see how much work i have ahead of me, cause jaja, it seems like you are going through a lot. so has anyone done this install with recaro sliders and the wedge 240 brackets? i matched it all up today and it looks like theyll fit but ill have to cut the hanging ends of the sliders off in order to fit the mounting brackets with them and drill in new holes for the bolts. ANYONE HELP?

ill post later to let you guys know how it went and take some new pics of the install hopefully.

Hm my friend did something like that. The only problem the seats tend to sit kinda high. I dont know if thats just the recaro in general or something with the brackets.

High seating position on aftermarket seats has to do with the use of generic sliders.

The only way to get a seat to sit low enough in a 240SX is to mount the inboard slider either along the side of the seat on the tunnel, or under the middle of the seat off to the side of the cat hump. If you try to place the slider between the seat and the floor, the height of the slider will raise the seat.

A properly designed bottom-mount slider for the 240SX looks like this:

note that the inboard slider is offset to sit alongside the hump rather than on top of it. if the inboard slider sits on the hump in the "normal" position, the seat will sit too high.

stock seats and side-mount aftermarket seats that sit between the sliders rather than on top of them can get away with putting the slider on the hump.

thanks for the info man! Those are "Speed" seats correct?

speed seats indeed. yeah they're fun. akadriver that sounds awfully convoluted to me. definitely doable, but i think ill leave it as a last choice. well see how well my 6'2" body fits in with recaro rails and wedge brackets first and a lil custom fab work. then the more "elaborate" custom design.
oh and like rookie2nr asked, those brackets of yours akadriver were custom made right ? if not, i'd love to buy a pair, lol. alrite, later guys. thanks for the input thus far.

Those brackets aren't custom, that's how some companies make their brackets. JIC, Bride, Recaro Japan, to name the ones I know.

If you want rails like that that will definitely fit your seats... Recaro Japan makes them. Bride rails should fit and are easier to get in the US, but don't take my word for it.. the bolt pattern might be different.

I remember someone asking once... I just happened to find the Recaro bottom-mount bolt pattern in this yahoo.co.jp auction for Recaro seat rails:
http://osaka.cool.ne.jp/taiti_03/y.f.pitch.jpg

That's not an S13/14/15 rail, but it's the top bolt pattern that matters. If Bride rails have holes in that pattern, Recaro seats will bolt onto them.

can't you make an adaptor for the bride rails or jus drills holes onto them?

Bride sliders are good (my friend used them with his recaros) her replaced the recaro sliders with Bride and the bride sliders sit alot lower and make the seats feel less akward

YES I'm fairly sure adapters are available from Bride to fit their rails.

Check this out...

This is a rail from Bride (picture is from an old thread when Dousan first bought his Brix). The top bolt pattern is obviously WAY off:

but but... that's not the end of the story! Check out this pic from auctions.yahoo.co.jp (I love that site, just wish I could bid on stuff!):

That outer bolt pattern on those plates on the left looks like it lines up with the Recaro pattern really good!

Further, check out this from Bride's website:

Weeee!

I wish I had cash pouring out of my ass so I could just buy this stuff and try it. Actually I might anyway. I have a friend with an Evo 8 that might sell his pimp ass stock seats because he wants buckets. If he does decide to sell, I'll get a bride driver's side rail and that adapter to see if it works. If it doesn't, it's not like a bride rail wouldn't sell fast on here, haha.

ok, so after some basic custom work and a bit of hammering, pushing and pulling, i got my recaros situated in the car. ive read so much on how they sit so high, and while yes, they are higher than stock, i'm 6'2" and i still got like four or five inches above my head sitting perfectly upright. i tend to slouch just a bit, so whatever. but its a lot easier to get out for me personally now, i dont have to dig myself outta the buttom of the car. anyways, they are really sturdy, excellent grip on your body, (can really take some sharp turns and not move at alllll. :eek3: ) and they go with everything else in the car. so good times. and thanks for all the input and feedback. later

Sometimes you have to take the advice given here with a grain of salt. The people that know the most random info tend to be perfectionists. I know I am... you seem happy, but raising the seat at all would bother me to no end. :) But I also don't sit like you.. one of the reasons I want aftermarket seats is the potential to have less recline angle while driving than stock.
