And do you like it.

As of now, I am running GS. I can hold my own, but there are 2 cars I cannot touch (Alfa Spyder and supercharged mini cooper) I would like to move up a few classes so I can be more competitive. I am severely underpowered.

Let me know what you like about the class you run in. As for me, I am just starting out. GS is fun because I only have 8 cars in my class. I am usually 3rd in time, and I like chasing the top 2 cars.

Im an STS fan myself, need the right tires to really be competitive in this class. STS is a tire limited class, meaning you cannot have anything over 225 wide and no larger than 17". Oh and no R compound so putting the power to the ground with the largest and stickiest tire you can get is the key. Falken Azenis Sports are widely considered the best all around autox tire and are one of the best for this class. Good Luck

well im about to do my very first real autocross on the 24th, my car is completely stock (except for a short ram and apex exhaust), so im assuming i would run in GS? <whatever that means

I run in sts. My first autocross they put me in sts, because i had a foam filter and a exhuast. I wasn't very competitive, but recently i did some suspension stuff and i'm catching up. If you run sts you are allowed to do any engine mods except internally and swaping engines. Also any suspension becides moving mounting points. Around me most of the people who run sts are pushing the limitations of that class.

stx, only because of vlsd, should really get a real limited slip and some azenis and of course more seat time

I run SM and like it.

This year, with the same car, I ran 4 different classes:

P1 (Regional equivalent of SM2)
SM (At NER)
DM (At Canadian AutoSlalom Championship)
A (At MCO, they have only 4 subjective classes)

I'm in gs right now, but soon to be sts or stx(if I get a lsd). gs is fun but around here there is almost no one in it, so I think I would like it better in a class with more cars.

i got put in dsp, with:
hks coilovers
17*9 245-40, 255-40
big brakes
toe and rucas
sub frame spacers, and polly lca bushings
intake, exhaust, coil, header, pulley, jwt ecu
v-lsd
short shifter and centerforce dual friction

i think thats all i had on the car that mattered

oh and wide front fenders, i think that matters for something?

put some slicks on the car, dial in the suspension, and you've got a very competative DSP car...

right now i think its too stiff, i m running the 8/7 and think i ll go back to 7/5, and run my whiteline sways. the car pushed and broke traction too much. next year i think i m gonna go with azenis sports for tires.............

hurleyboi514

if you had slicks, you wouldn't be running too stiff! :) cheap 16" wheels + 225/50/16 victoracers = teh win!!1

I run GS in autocross and U2 in rallycross.

G Stock suits my complete lack of driving skill. There are no settings to screw up, and nothing to blame but my driving. I am still far from the limits of the car on R compounds.

I am also contemplating moving up to DSP in a year or so, I think a 240SX could be quite competitive there.

the course we were on was terrible for the 240, you practically had to stop to not hit any cones, it was totaly catered to the civic hatch and the Vw's that were there. they happened to be the ones who set the track up. there was a viper and vette there and they got alot of cones, the viper guy had been in a few before and i guess usally did good, but they said it was the tightest track they ever set up.

I ran in DSP today. I don't think I was very competitive because I had a shitty tires, no vLSD. So, besiclly I was all over the course. I had OBX header, HKS cat-back exhaust, z32 brakes, stillen flywheel, CTF II clutch, ebay air intake, KYB shocks(came with the car), with factory spring that's pretty much it.
I was fun though, was pretty nervous on the first lap. Had a great time.

its a 2.5-3 hour drive for me to autocross so they all ahve a huge advantage over me.............

thelinja
08-23-2004, 07:47 PM
what does the length of the drive have to do with advantage?

ryan hagen

what does the length of the drive have to do with advantage?

if i bring special tires i gotta carry them in the car, or wear them out fast, every event is a 6 hour round trip, and 2.5-3hours one way is the closest, most are farther, when you can only do 2 autocross a year it gets kinda tuff, other wise i have to drive over to lower mi, or try to get in one 4 or 5 hours away in milwaukee, or minniapolis, or even farther chicago.......... then it turns into a 10hour round trip
