Hello,
I had a local shop here do an oil change for me. I supplied a filter for them and they said it didn't fit. I can't remember exactly what part number it was. Anyways..
I have a s14 sr20det in my car. In the service manual it states that the part number for the OEM filter from Nissan is 15208-65F00. I did a cross reference
here (http://www.amsoil.com/AmsoilLookups/MasterFilterCrossRef.aspx) and found out that the WIX filter is 51365.
The shop put on filter WIX 51394.
I looked up these 2 filters here and compared them:
51394 (http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?Part=51394)
51365 (http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?Part=51365)
The length of 1 of them is slighty longer, but most importantly... the threads are different. I would like to think that the manual is right, but I am also thinking I should stick with what fits??
I am asking these questions because I am looking into getting an Amsoil filter and they are expensive for a filter. I don't want to waste time and money when doing the oil change next time.
What filters are the guys with s14 SRs using at the moment?
Thanks for the help

The number I always tend to remember is 14612 for my S14 sr
the S13 sr20 filter is 14477
These are "purolator" numbers. They say that the Nissan filter incorporates a drainback checkvalve but I have yet to see it for myself.

Which is exactly what the service manual says it is.

The shop owner even thought it was strange how my engine took an s13 SR oil filter. They said I definitely had a s14 bottom end. Strange...
unless the filter is cross threaded and the s13 filter was forced on??
not sure how different the threads really are
EDIT: Found this link explaining the measurements. The threads are very similar. The diameters are off by less than a 1/32 of an inch. And the pitch of the threads are not the same, but very close, which could possibly work still.

I have always used a OEM nissan Z33 filter on my Kouki S14 Sr20det. I'll get the wix filter for a Z33 if I don't have a oem one laying around.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but my s14 sr20 is a zenki. whats the part number for your z33 oil filter?
I don't care much for the wix ones. Its just what I used at the time. I was going to switch to royal purple, but now after doing some research I am pretty sure amsoil makes the best oil and filter on the market so thats what I'll use
^^^ S14 Zenki and Kouki motors are basically Identical minus the ecu, wire harness and maf(iirc). They use the same oil filters so you should have no issues running a z33 oil filter on your setup.
The Wix oil filter part # I use is: 51358
The OEM Nissan one is: 15208-65F00 aka AY100-NS004 (all of the 15208 filters will work)
You may want to read this, I found this to be very interesting... I haven't yet ordered any from Rockauto to verify this but be a really good way to save some $$$ on filters if it is really true. http://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/538767-wix-oil-filter-under-another-brand.html
Also, check this link out, it shows what the AY100-NS004 will fit. http://www.niparts.com/OEM/550360/NISSAN/AY100NS004.html

I can see why you are running the 51358. Its a little bigger. My concern is that I have a filter installed at the moment which is a thread thats for the s13 sr20.
I am here in Canada so I need to be able to order filters that are somewhat accessible. From what I have read, Amsoil makes the best filter at the moment. Second is royal purple. The price doesn't bother me because I know I will get that back when doing my oil changes less frequent because of cleaner oil.
I just purchased a Z33 filter for my S14 Eng works like a charm, the rep said most of the newer Nissans use that filter as well. Since I've own the car the filter was phased out 3 times each time getting smaller.
Point is the Z33 filter is a match

Thanks for the feedback. I'll consider it next time I need a filter

This is from a post i made in another thread. I've been running this filter for 1800 miles with no problems.
This has helped me, so i thought i"d give back.
For a 95 sr20det notch top.
Been using an oil filter for a 08 350z Mobil one part#M1-108. It's smaller then the stock sr filter, so on my next oil change took the old oil filter to pep boys and 45 min later found a filter from a 09 GTR, Mobil one part# M1-110, Royal purple part# 10-2867.
fits perfect and is taller.

350z filter i used. part#10-2876 royal purple

GTR filter i'm using now. part#10-2867 royal purple

comparison. taller one is for the GTR. smaller one is 350z.

Pep boys price.
Hope this helps.

Maybe for whatever reason an s13 sr oil block was bolted on. That m108 filter used to be on my s13 sr and I still use it's o-ring for my filter relocation
