CAR HAS BEEN SOLD!
Sick of your S-chassis? It's time to graduate to a four door drift saloon! Nob and Orido command you!
The time has come for me to part ways with my project. This is a 1998 Lexus GS400 with about 200k miles on it. I bought it back in March from a friend that got it at auction with a blown engine. He removed the engine and transmission before I got the car. Clean title.
The chassis is rust free aside from one small bubble on the passenger front fender. There is very light damage to the driver’s side rear quarter right where the bumper mounts that you can see in the photos below. The car does have it’s share of dings as well as one dent in the trunk lid. The trunk has a hole where an aftermarket backup camera was once installed near the license plate area. I had planned to source a mint condition trunk, have it painted, and replace this one vs trying to have it repaired. The hood has discoloration on it and the clearcoat is damaged. Overall, could be better, but not terrible for a 16 year old car. The glass on the passenger side view mirror is falling out.
The interior was tan when I bought it and I have converted it to black. I swapped the carpet, dash, door panels, seats, pillar trim, seat belts, etc. The steering wheel and airbag are still tan. I’ll include all of the tan interior pieces I have left. I believe the only piece missing really is the trim around the shifter and seatbelt receivers for the front seats. I dropped around $1400 or so on the interior pieces for the swap alone. I also have leather front seats with all of the motors/brackets etc. that will be included. The driver's side has tear in it, but they're not in the worst condition.
A brand new Walbro 255lph fuel pump is mostly installed, I just forgot the bottom trim piece for the pump assembly (which is included) so the assembly will need to come back out to install that. Otherwise it is wired up and ready to rock. I went through the process of converting the chassis to a manual transmission setup. The hole for the shifter was drilled neatly, and an OEM JZA80 Supra clutch pedal and master assembly were both installed brand new, purchased from Drift Motion. Essentially all you need to do is throw the manual trans in and run a clutch line and this would be a manual transmission car (as I’m sure you know, the GS was never sold in the US or Japan as a manual. The swap is a bit difficult and not many people have gone through with it.)
The brake rotors are pretty rusty and should be trued, but the pads have life left. Factory tires and wheels are included. I have the front bumper, crash beam, and headlights for the car as well as the hardware. I do not have a front grille for the car. I will reinstall the headlights, front bumper, stock tail lights, stock wheels and tires, and front seats before the car is sold.
Here are some current photos I took of the car today (Saturday, September 20th) after putting everything back together:

Emblems have been removed but are included with the car:

There are some dings on the sides of the car that are kind of tricky to see... but they're there:

Here's the clearcoat issue on the hood. I haven't done anything to try to correct it. There are stone chips as well, the headlights are pretty yellow (also have not been cleaned,) and there is no grille for the car (you'll want a Toyota one anyway, right?)

Kind of tricky to get a clear shot of this side with the car in my garage, but it's in about the same shape as the passenger side.

Here's the only real body damage to the car on the rear driver's side:

Rear seat is not "snapped" down into place here:

Front seats have some cracks and a couple tears. Front seats are not bolted down. Steering wheel is tan. Airbag is included but not pictured. But you'll want a Nardi or something anyway...

All four door panels are mint.

Some midwest rust on suspension components, but the frame rails are clean:

All trunk panels are included. Spare parts shown with another large spare parts box in my basement (also included.)

The OEM radiator and e-fans are shrink wrapped to prevent coolant spillage. They're in good shape.

Completed manual swap via new OEM Supra MK4 clutch pedal assembly. Installed with custom bracing. OEM brake pedal was cut down for manual configuration with new pedal pad:

OEM MK4 Supra clutch master, brand new and already installed:
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3848/15116585939_e01055b0bc_c.jpg
PROJECT POTENTIAL:
Here are some directions you could choose to take this car in:
- Toss a stock GS400 1UZFE V8 engine and auto trans into it, sell the manual swap components. Or mate up a manual box! These engines are cheap and readily available.
- Swap a GM LSX engine/T56 trans into the car. This has been done a few times now.
- Swap a 2JZGTE engine and automatic transmission from a Toyota Aristo. This is essentially a bolt-on affair, including wiring! Or, do what I was trying to do and swap an R154 manual transmission as well. The hard work is already done!
- Swap a 2JZGE engine and auto trans from a USDM GS300. This is also a bolt-on affair.
Overall, I have about $3k invested in the shell with the interior swap, manual swap, fuel pump, and what I paid for the shell itself. I’m asking PRICE DROP!! $1,500 FIRM for the rolling shell. I’ll include all of the spare interior parts I have and anything else that’s laying around. I'll have the car ready to go by this weekend. The car includes the factory radiator and cooling fans, as well as AC condensor.
TRADE POTENTIAL:
At this time, I will only entertain trades for items of value that I can easily sell. I am willing to consider trades for wheels or OEM 180SX Type X aero components, but not for other vehicles, motorcycles, etc.
Be a hero like the great Chob! Build this thing into the car it is destined to be!
