How'd you guys like it? I had a great time, was a little hot with no shade all day though. The track was also a little small in my opinion, but it was good none the less. The only bad thing is when a bunch of people went down and ripped off the banners, that wasn't very good taste, and reflects bad on all of us when a few dipships do that stuff.
I have some pictures but they aren't that great, I will post them up when they are hosted. If anyone has pics or vids, post them up.

yea, stupid ass kids man...fucking thugs....i was also sitting next to some racist ass people :madfawk:
kinda small event, announcer was weak, crowd was dead asleep or just not entertained...
placings:
1. Sam Hubinette
2. Daijiro Yoshihara
3. Calvin Wan
4. Rhys Millen
Sam actually won this one playing "fair". Daijiro and Sam had good first tandem run with Sam leading up front...then Daijiro was leading the second tandem run and he spun out, Sam kept the line and simply won...
there were lots and lots of re-runs, but i felt that Calvin clearly won over Rhys for the first set of runs (they ran 3 times)

Definitely too hot with NOOO shade. I'm sitting here horribly sunburned =/. Spent a lot of time under the need for speed underground tent next to the R33, just to get some shade. Good event overall tho, it's always nice to get inches away from your favorite cars and meet the drivers. I was kind of embarassed for nor cal/america tho. The majority of the people didn't know who the judges were ... even when tarzan ran thru the bleachers tryna get people hyped up, there wasn't much response. Kinda sad that they came all the way out from japan for this event, and didn't get the recognition they deserve.
But again, good event overall. It's always nice to find your car surrounded by tons of fellow s13's when you return to the parking lot. =D

i had a good time. it was cool seeing koguchi out there, since he is my favorite drifter ever. he is one crazy guy... i loved it when he was trying to drift with those golf karts, that was hilarious. seeing tarzan in the benihana viper was cool too. i only wish the track was a bit bigger, but all in all i enjoyed it... well except for the fact that some cop pulled me over and another hachi at the end while we were exiting down that dirt hill... hahahaha... but he was cool and just gave me a warning.

A few people that were around me didn't understand the judging during the race, I'm understanding it more. They just wanted to see people crash. That sucks. It's exciting, but I rather see them put off nice lines and sick angles. I wish the crowd was hyped like in the last D1, I dunno.
Was it utumi, I think it is, He was getting some crazy angles and pulled it off like it was nothing.
Overall I thought it was a good event, just the weather was hot. It was different to see all those vipers on show.

Yeah, it was too hot, but was worth it. I know what you mean about the people not knowing the drivers, I saw a bunch of people asking Koguchi for signatures, but with a Yamamoto flyer. I thought the banner stealing was worse at D1 though, because people took less shit than there.

the event was great!! luved every bit of it except the sunburns and burning weather! i was supporting calvin since i hav norcal pride hahah, he was consistent the whole day, i only wish his car worked on the run with sam (mopar viper) i wanted that viper to lose sooooo baaaad; i admit that viper puts out a serious show though :p

I think i may have destroyed the anouncer's self-esteem by the end of the day... he was looking pretty dejected after the last few insults i flung at him. Was sort of hot but D1 at Irwindale was much worse, at least in up here it gets breezy and i got to cool down in the Torco booth throughout the day. I thought it would have been better if they had moved the barrier at the far end to make the hairpin a little wider. and wtf is with the name "The Gush"???? thats soooo lame, might as well call him the cooch, cuz thats what it sounds like. oh and gotta rep the locals (well formerly) alex of battle swing, crazy mother fucker drinks too much drift sauce.

it kinda sucks that sam won again. I think in my own opinion its wack that they got vipers in there but i got no problem with domestics being in it. track was small and the crowd was kinda stupid but it was aight i guess.

I saw rhys trying to pass a couple of times but not get anywhere. BTW is that Bensons old car now white? or is that a sponser car? Looks pretty dope. Loved the high speed drifts.Sucks tarzan's steering wheel kept coming off. I must saw sam's car is pretty fucking strong. Left peoples in teh dust.

lol honestly the announcer could've been worse, so I didn't feel like hating too much. maybe next time we'll get a guy that doesn't say everythings "ROCK AND ROLL ......... ON AND OFF THE TRACK!"

Honestly I wasn't impressed. Don't get me wrong, it was cool (at times) and I'm glad I went, but D1 it ain't.
You couldn't hear the announcers over by the wall (which was prolly a good thing, but it would have been nice to know what was going on), the breaks took WAAAY too long, the booths weren't as impressive as they were at D1 (so those long ass breaks consisted of you sitting in the sun, bored as hell), and a lot of the judging was just BS (Gushi got screwed, stupid ass "one more time" crap).
Anyway it's all subjective as hell, and I say Al won.
The crowd was pretty dead up until the last couple rounds, and I don't blame them really.. the qualifying rounds took FOREVER... and it was beyond hot. Sure Irwindale gets pretty warm too, but the qualifying rounds were not impressive, and when you put both of these factors together I think the crowd died down pretty quick.
The demos were fun & the JDM drivers' antics were hilarious. :)
Track layout was nice but the second-to-last turn SUCKED... everyone had to slow to a crawl to get through it. Guess it was cus of the KART'ers running on the other side of the track.
I had fun but I do have gripes as you can see. :P
And I think the announcer needs to have a retirement match against the D1 announcer... and the winner has to retire too. :P

at the next event, i'm going to bring a bat and ownzor whoever that starts the one more time chant. May it be that half the crowd lay unconscious at the end of the day. But whatever it takes to get that shit out. Geez

It's really hillarious sitting here, reading what you guys think of the event.
From the driver's perspective, it is completely different.
Complain all you want about the course; if you don't know I suggest you look at it again. The entry was difficult because of one drainage ditch and several electrical covers that made a regular feint entry much harder than normal. The judges emphasized to all of us that they were not concerned about the method of entry into turn 1, but the clipping point at the second corner (where the single cone was placed) was the most important. In practice on Saturday almost every driver was trying to make a dramatic entry into the first corner, and everyone went conservative on Sunday for qualifying.
In my personal opinion the track was pretty decent considering what they had to work with; but there are not many Irwindale-type venues around, and even Irwindale is getting a bit old and unchallenging for some of these drivers. What drifting needs are tracks that are halfway between a standard FIA-sanctioned road racing course, and a standard FIA competition karting course. Thats the basic layout of your average small course in Japan, and it makes for great drifting. Where can you find something like that in the U.S.? Nowhere.
Still, quite hillarious. Keep posting, it's entertaining to read!

Now I'm not so sad I didn't go. L1 class was better it seems.
Formula D never really got me excited, and hearing about it makes it that much more ho-hum. Oh well, if the event planners don't cater to the audience better, there won't be a Formula D.
...like the drag racing events that have 20 people show up.
