I've searched quite a bit on the net and I surprisingly cannot find this. I'm trying to separate my Tanabe Speed Star Vienna Dish wheels... they're new and they have these bolts in the attachment. A Torx T40 fits however it's loose. I already stripped one of the nuts on the back with a 10mm closed end wrench. On the bolt there are 12 points and the Torx just has 6 and it seems loose. I'm asking this to prevent from stripping the bolt in addition to the nut. I know to use PB blaster and an impact. Is there a special tool for the bolt head or is a torx T40 it? Thanks in advance

Come on, no one knows this. It's a triple square but what size? 6mm? I got too much time into searching for this.

I can't tell by the picture but I am almost sure that is not a Torx bolt. I have seen sockets with that many points. I forget what they are called. Check Sears for it. As far as size I can't tell you.

Obeewon is right, check sears. I think they are called SPLINE DRIVE BITS... Also check fasenal if you have one in the area.

Bingo. Spline drive, that's it.

I ordered a cornwell set online so that should do it. I searched it as triple square bits... 3x4=12 so I figured that was right. Spline drive may be another word for them IDK. Some sets skip from 8 to 10 mm and some have a 9mm but I'm thinking it's 6mm. Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll update the thread when I get the set in with which size it is.

Hmmm... they look like a 90 to me but it's hard to tell. I know... my picture of the bolt is not very good. It's surprising some look 90 and some look 120... these bolts don't appear to be machined very well.

8mm triple square is the answer
