so this means that going around any corner, the inside wheel will always spin?
how much would shipping be to 37343

You have to be more specific. I have allready proven the ability of the weld locd here in ca. The diff is allways locd. I need open diffs as an exchange so i can weld them

hey luke i got a question, what happens if the weld happens to break? does it just revert back to open diff and driveable still or will i just be shit out of luck if the weld breaks? Also how long does it take to get this done? i live on the east side of san jo and was considering your offer since i can't get my lsd just yet. This would also be on a s14 SE 95.
Can you post back a reply here and email me at

If the welds brake the diff is toast. My diff is welded (too poor for lsd) but i put a shit load of weld in it.

yeha i was already thinking of keeping my original as a backup just in case. I'll prolly get one and keep the stock as a back up, yeah. What do you have to do to the rearend to make it more reinforced? Bushing's of course but is that it?

The welds will never break. If it does i will give you a new diff for free.
I guarantee it.

what i mean is that with this diff you are selling, will i incur wheelspin at every corner regardless of speed.
basically will both wheels move at the same speed the whole time?
is it daily driver friendly?
thx247
07-12-2004, 10:52 PM
yes both wheels spin at the same speed 24/7.

also wanted to know if these are noisy and rough. Is it daily-driver friendly? Also, are there any advantages or disadvantages over a VLSD or clutch LSD? Thanks Luke
sr20pwrdSiLvIa
07-13-2004, 04:39 PM
Yes there are advantages, these diffs are very predictable, they are locked all the time, unlike VLSD, the Weld Lock Version 3 is most comparable to the Kazz 2way L.S.D as far as noise and perfomance, the Weld Lock Version 3 is just not ridiculously expensive like the Kazz is...

how bad to these diffs chirp in turns...i don't mind the chirp but does it bounce and all too?
blu808
07-21-2004, 11:14 PM
It isn't that bad, the car reacts very similar to a 2-way. Just because the rear wheels are locked it doesnt mean the car will instantly spin. The diff is very predictable.

what a joke, I'm on my second 2 way and the car is much more predictable than w/ an open diff. I've now been in both the s13 and s14 chassis in the rain(s14 in the snow also), both w/ 2ways, and I'd never go back to an open diff for 'safety' reasons. If your really concerned about steppin the back end out, 1. don't drift, or 2. don't have a ham for an appendage when you step on the brakes or the accelerator. Oh, I've also been blessed to drive w/ both the USDM and JDM motors, and both are easily controlable.

07-22-2004, 12:44 AM
Thank you for gracing us with your extensive knowledge of drifting. Incase you didnt notice its an open diff that is welded solid. And dont try telling me a kazz is more predictable. I have had a kaaz, cusco, nismo, and vlsd diff in everything from an mr2, z32, s13, s14 and a welded diff is way more predictable, same lockup feeling but you are never wondering when it will lock.
Have fun rebuilding your diff.ha

Alright buddy, chill out, I'm not doggin the welded diff. In fact, I'm all for them if that's what you want to do. I was referring to the differences in a locking type diff (clutch/welded/whatever) to an open diff and "it's" unpredictability in the wet. As per the guy that I quoted, so ease up champ.
What are the specs on the welder you're using... MIG, TIG, ARC?
BobbyBoy

Just got back from a hard drive with the welded and felt I had to post because I dont think the car could feel more connected and predictable without this diff. Its completely at home in extreme driving condtions.

locked diff is for drag racers only
trying to drift in a locked diff wroks ok sometimes but can cause understeer. with a 2-way, you can push the clutch in and "unlock" it, you can do that with a weld
you will also kill tires quickly just driving around town
also, what if your car breaks down ? pushing a car with a locked diff is next to impossible if you have to turn

The weld-lok diffs are awesome. My friends car has one and its the easiest thing to drift now. Hey luke I have 2 open diffs if you need some cores. I was gonna get em welded but its too hardcore for my daily driver.

I just had to throw this up. I have an S14 SE w/ open diff. I've been doing Auto-X lately. How does this affect performance w/ that kind of activity? I'm pretty interested. This ver.3 diff locd seems really economical and effective, don't see why more people aren't doing this.
BobbyBoy
07-25-2004, 11:55 PM
There are a lot of internet only racers and drifters on the board, so the puss factor is high. Truth is people are raggin on the diff because they have no clue. I drive my welded to work and school eveyday, only thing killing my tires are drift days.

hows the welded diff handle situations like mountain runs/grip driving? i mostly do that, and some autocross, and while i know the welded diff is good for all out drifting, how does it handle other extreme situations?
blu808
07-26-2004, 01:41 AM
SOunds good just give me a call. 408-515-9598
Auto X drifting with a vlsd would be better, the reason being is that auto x is realativly low speed with too much load change to put the power down. If you were gripping on a big track then it would be ok, but the tires wont get enough load on them and will break loose.

Weld Loc'd Version 3 = Awesome! I've had mine for quite a while, over 6 months I believe. Do you remember Blu808?
I drove up to San Jose from Long Beach, Ca. just to have it done, and drove straight back. IT IS worth doing. I have driven it almost daily since(my SR powered 240 gets better MPG than my big truck!)
It is extremely predictable in that every time I accellerate hard in turns, I can get the back end to come around if I want. If you don't want it to, just drive normal!
Parking lots make the rear tires squeak(barely audible), just like my friends Kaaz 2 way.
Rain is not a problem. I don't have to drive any differently than normal(unless you drive like Rhys Millan 24/7).
I have driven my car many times on long mountain trips with awesome grip!!!!!!!! I seriously thought there would be pushing issues with a welded diff, but NOPE!!! If you are doing SCCA parking lot events where you use mainly 1st and some 2nd gear power, then maybe there would be an issue of pushing(understeer?), but I wouldn't know as I haven't had the chance to participate in such an event.
If you are local to So cal(Long Beach) and you want to go for a ride, email me for availability.
