I have a 93 dual cam that I just put used injectors in and it starts and runs, but when I give it gas it will die, video shows. Basically are the injectors junk or what's my problem?

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks

Why did you install the new injectors? and have you tried any diagnostics on your own?
First place i would start is unplugging the maf and trying to run it. See if there are any changes. of course it will cut at 2.5k, but see how it revs up to there.

It had a Ka-t in it and he left the sr injectors in the car, so I needed to get stock ones, and I did get a new maf and wired it in, I will try to unplug it in a few mins and report back

what is your engine management? aka ECU?

what is your engine management? aka ECU?
^ like he said, ecu could be tune for a turbo, barrow a stock ecu from a friend or something and try it. usually if the ecu is shop tuned it will say so with a sharpie on the ecu it self

I will look, I think it is stock, but I don't have any friends with a 240 #loner I'll have to buy one and rule that

take the cover on and look for anything that seems like it shouldn't be there, use Google for references

get thise connections cleaned just in case, and what number is the ecu? it will be like E5 or 62 something along those lines.
EDIT: i dont see anything out of the ordinary, but maybe someone els will?

Basics man. You need compression, air, fuel, and spark... Easiest are compression and spark. On an N/A you pretty much just assume you get air... So, with that...
Compression test engine. And either lay a wire on the head for spark. Or pull a plug and wire and look at it while cranking. Do this for each cylinder to verify spark.
As far as compression testing: warm up engine to ~120, pull all plugs, pull fuel pump fuse, and crank while throttle plate wide open.
Report back after these findings.

Were the "used" injectors flow tested? How did the seals looks on them? Seems as if the only real problem could be the injectors IF it was running fine before that.

Compression was 150 across, all have spark, #4 is Alil dimer than the rest. And they were not flow testes

Got a new fuel pump and the same issue. Dies when you push in the throttle. So idk. Once and awhile the check engine light turns on and then off right away. Kinda weird. And now my battery is probably shot so I'm going to buy a new one to rule that out too.

The code should be stored in the ecu as well. Get it for us

Code 55 so no errors. And I'll have to wait a few weeks befor I can swing it to buy the tester

hey Derek. try unplugging your maf sensor. the car should die out. I had a similar issue car would fire up and idle perfectly then you give it gas and mine would stutter and almost die and run like ass under throttle (no power and the car would get super fucking loud). ended up being my ecu. this really sounds like a fueling issue, and both the ecu and maf sensor affect or controlfueling

when the car is idling and i pull the maf sensor it tries to die so i know that it works and it's not the maf. i have a feeling that the butterfly valve in the intake is staying closed and when i give it gas it doesn't open so it dies because it's running too rich. not sure. could it be timing?

check the throttle body by popping the hood and physically turning it by hand

Have you checked for intake leaks? All couplers, gaskets, etc. Brake ckean everywhere air could get in. If it has a wideband, what do the afrs look like at idle and when you give it throttle.
derekbartlett
07-23-2017, 05:44 PM
even when opening throttle by hand it dies. i don't have a wideband so i'm not sure how the afr is.

my bad I thought you were talking about the Throttle body butterfly valve. yeah I could see the intake runner butterfly valves causing this sort of issue if they are stuck mostly closed

that's what i'm thinking. i'm going to hold them open by hand then try.

The only way I no to get the timing right is with the timing gun. You can try to mess with the distributer when the car is on

Rotate the engine to tdc, make sure the distributor rotor points to plug 1. Also might want to check the marks on the timing chain.
